Getting my studio started.

Next time I visit 'home' in Dallas (more specifically 'burbs north of Dallas) I will be going to IKEA to get myself a desk. If production falls through completely I still have uses for the space, writing and running my small business which needs a good place as well.

I consider a proper workspace a starting point for a studio, as well as a chair to go along. A proper space is what I think will give me the most satisfaction. I have several disadvantages going into this, like not a whole lot of cash to burn. Also, I am tall 6'3/ 191 cm and wrecking my back producing on a couch or worse, on my bed which is no where near as sexy and fun as it sounds...

I am also out of the spacious home I grew up in and in an apartment (have been a few years but it was worse in a dorm up until this year). I am not happy about setting up a studio in a ephemeral space like an apartment where I will inevitably have to move everything....

If you care http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99896735/ is what I am thinking about.

This post is purely egocentric. While it is serious, it has a tinge of 'whinyness' to it and I know it isn't important and there isn't much to respond to. One could suggest colors for the desk but choosing white knocks the price down 1/10 overall and white is my color anyway.

Dude, do what makes you happy. You only live once. If you want a nice desk and can afford it. Buy it. It's as simple as that.

So I am not the only one who obsesses over a desk... Makes me feel better.

I believe in quality things and am willing to spend to get them, when I have the cash. I honestly can afford about what I posted. I collect books and got a bookshelf from Ikea and it serves it's purpose just fine.

Plus, even though I can't prove it, I love to think I am Swedish-American and going to IKEA gives me one of those ancestral-connection moments.

It's a pretty desk you posted.

W/o being to graphic, I need to be able to get my legs under it well, and sit up straight without being hunched or having to have my arms stretched straight constantly while I work.

The desk I posted costs ~$2,000.00 more than the one you posted

When I build up a warchest I will pounce on it. Yeah, the one I posted is pathetic and cheap compared to the one you posted.

I'm not remotely kidding. Bolt this to a swivel/roller base and you will never again want to sit in anything else. Get it with the adjustable lumbar option. Not the cheapest seating option, but you will not find anything as comfortable and supporting at many times the price.

I miss it....

get the galant. Beats pretty much anything on price/quality ratio. I've got one for ovr 5yrs know and it still looks and functions great. The A styled legs are the cheapest option I think, I've got those too and they're just fine. Good thing is you can configure the height with either sets of legs, which is good for someone your length. The galant have been around for quite soom time now. I'm pretty sure it's their best selling desk. Also think about a proper desk chair. Ikea has one (forgot the name) which looks like this fancy leather chair. I got the big one of those (there is a small variety of it as well which one of my employers has, those suck), cost me 50euro's and still does great after 3 yrs (can sit in it for days without causing any pains). Cheapest proper desk chair I've found thus far.

FWIW i have an older version of the Galant still going strong & i've just picked up the Markus which i'm really happy with too; although for a man of your stature i'd definitely try a few out in person.

Good luck with it all

It's kind of comforting to see other people got the exact same desk I am talking about. I will try some things out when I go.

Awesome, I saw there was another type of legs and was wondering if I shouldn't get them. I am sure the A legs will be ok as long as the don't get in the way.

It looks really funny but I believe you. I can't get it now, but it will be on my list to look at when I have a bit more cash.
