People that make soundsets.

don't want to get into why you shouldn't use them but every sound set seems to focus on the same lead bass pad and all sound the same.

The actual sounds that make something interesting are those types of evolving sounds/ fx that don't have a melody. I suppose it is harder to demonstrate as part of the sound is the ability to manipulate the parameters but it is really quite silly that sound designers keep releasing the same sounds over and over and over.

the last thing the world needs is another pluck , or saw lead. Its all the same shit being rehashed and released with no change.

Yup, I think we get it now. Everything everybody else does is wrong. It used to be somewhat amusing, but it's gotten stale and you've become a caricature of yourself. Time for some new material.

ever consider the reason i have these opinions is that on the contrary it is everything you guys do that is boring the fuck out of me ?

I mean every fucking soundset posted on here is the same. A pluck, a saw lead. Do you not stop and think, wait , i've heard this somewhere, oh ya, on every fucking synth made in the last 10 years. Maybe i should make stuff that isn't already done.

honestly, i just don't get why people bother making stuff that is already there and not just once, but like 50 fucking times.

Why is every soundset the same. To the point that it is kinda funny.

If people wanna keep buying it, i'll keep selling it. It's not an artistic statement from me.

Saying that, I honestly believe I tried to do something different with mine, and that was what a lot of feedback I received stated as well.

well if you look at EDM in the last few years, the tracks that are cutting edge are the ones that have sounds you wouldn't really classify as lead or bass or pluck. THey are the types of sounds that are rhytmic and evolving in nature. But every soundset is made up of stale sounds that do nothing but I suppose given a nice chord progression , most idiots will think its awesome.

When I finally decide to make a kickass dance track i'll definitely looking for that killer lead that's at least somewhat new. I won't be putting in a soundset for somebody else to fuck about with first though

But yeah that ramirez stab lead thing was a perfect example of a simple sound killing it.

I can't say that I make many original sounds myself, and I've been doing it a looooong time (not that it necessarily makes me an expert). I think that much of the problem is that there is a fine line between usable and unusable and much of the usable range of subtractive synths has been explored ad nauseum. Change will come from pushing the boundary of the usable/unusable range, and/or by exploring other synthesis types (e.g., additive, granular, spectral, sample-based, etc.). Actually, IMO too many soundbanks, particularly factory soundbanks, include too much content that I would never use, or even want to hear, in a song because it's just there to show off the synth's capabilities and the designer wasn't able to balance that with creating something that was actually musically useful.

Are people actually making money pushing out these generic soundbanks? I guess if you're Deadmau5 people will gobble it up, but what about joe shmoe the sound designer?

You not going to become milliner from those soundbanks but you can still make few K a year if you have right product, I know that for fact.

Cheers,

Darek

Good question. I know that guys like Alanzo (TA member) had a pay-what-you-want (or nothing at all) approach and, from what I recall, he actually made some decent cash on the side from it. That's the approach I would take if/when I ever get around to finishing a bank of my own. And, yes, mine would likely fall in the not-so-original, bread-n-butter variety of sounds category. I'm betting that more people will buy that than a bank full of highly creative and original, but largely unusable sounds.
