REVIEW: UltraSpin 2012 (Ben Gold, Andy Moor, W&W, Wolfgang Gartner)
quote:
Here's my video montage of the evening.
My apologies for a late post event review/write-up of UltraSpin 2012, but what a fantastic night of Trance it was (inside the Koolhaus), while Wolfgang Gartner was on fire inside The Guv mainroom alongside residents Manzone & Strong playing disgustingly amazing house music beats into the wee hours of the morning. In my opinion, Ben Gold was the man and had the set of the night inside the Koolhaus. I knew what to expect from his last visit to The Guv for Contact 2011 back in August. Short in stature, but huge behind the decks with a mixture of tech-trance, uplifting, and some melodic tracks thrown in there for good measure. Always full of energy bouncing around in the dj booth, his energy is so contagious it's nearly impossible to stand still during his set.
Following Ben Gold's amazing performance, Andy Moor was up for the challenge and came through with a great set of his own. Now I haven't seen Andy Moor in many, many years, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, despite hearing a few of his recent sets and seeing video footage of a few of his shows in the last year. I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard and the crowd seemed to agree.
In between Andy Moor's set, I decided to head into the Mainroom to check out Wolfang Gartner. It was my first time seeing or hearing him live. I really should've stayed there for more of the night as I loved what he was playing. Chunky, heavy _house music with sexy basslines. As you can tell by the picture below, the crowd was loving every second of it too.
I headed back into the Koolhaus to catch W&W's set. I saw them in Toronto last year at Vola Nightclub and was really impressed by their sound, so I knew we'd all be in for a treat now that they'd be on the awesome sound system inside the Koolhaus. Their sound is definitely made for the big room. They played a lot of the popular tracks of the moment, stuff like: Feel It, Nowhere but here, Punk, Silence, and Invasion to name a few.
Once again I ventured into the mainroom to see if I could catch the end of Wolfgang Gartner's set, but I missed it and caught The Guv's very own dynamic duo Manzone & Strong quite possibly playing one of the best sets I've heard this year. They were celebrating Fab Strong's bday proper, with a set that had me dancing until almost 8am in the morning. I just couldn't bring myself to leave those chunky, rolling basslines that are so hypnotic. All in all a great night especially for the Toronto TranceFamily.
Scott has been introduced to the rave scene, and Ecstasy, by Craig. The two of them go out on the weekends, with some of Craigs friends, and stay up all night, dancing in a drug-fueled trance.
