a few questions

Sorry for these very basic questions but I'm having trouble finding an answer.

1. What is the standard procedure in turning off/on equipment? I couldn't really find any information on this so maybe it doesn't matter; but whenever I turn my monitors on/off they always make a click/pop noise. Recently I've been turning the volume to zero on my synth/drum machine before turning off my monitors when I'm done with a session, but I still get the click/pop when I turn off my monitors. I can't help but think this is bad for them. Is this normal or what should I be doing to prevent this.

2. The second question I have is about Audio Interfaces. My current setup is a Macbook, Logic Studio 9, NI Komplete 7, a external hard drive, a usb hub, Access Virus TI2 keyboard, Mackie MR5 monitors, and a TC Pilot. I need an audio interface because I just purchased a DSI Tempest.

I plan on ordering Komplete Audio 6 soon but would GREATLY appreciate it if someone explain to me how all of my equipment hook up. I know this is extremely basic but even after reading numerous AI articles I am having trouble wrapping my head around it all. My other concern is I have no idea what cables I need to buy for all this to be connected since for some reason (maybe its just so obvious/basic?) none of the articles I have read mention what cords/cables you need. My last question is if I purchased a stompbox such as eventide space, would i be plugging this directly into my synth or drummachine, or does this also connect to the audio interface.

Thanks for the help guys, I know this stuff is as basic as it gets but I'm really struggling with how this all works.

This read might be useful.

Essentially, the audio interface goes into your mac as a usb, the tempest plugs into the input. I'm assuming it either uses RCA, XLR (microphone type cables), 1/4 inch TRS (has 2 rings), or 1/4 inch TS (has 1 ring)

I believe the komplete audio 6 uses a combo jack that accepts TRS or XLR (both are 3 pin connectors).

If anything, the interface will work with the tempest. It just depends if you have the cable for it.

My Mackie's make a popping sound every time they automatically power off after inactivity. No damage after 10 years of it.

It's only for a split second. Not long enough to burn any voice coils or transistors.

The popping sound are capacitors from the amplifier section discharging, which is quite normal for powered speakers.

This. It's fine.

However it's not a bad habit to make sure your monitors are the last to get switched on, and the first to be switched off just in case any other piece of equipment causes a major spike.

Just on this topic. I have EMES monitors hooked into a firebox and when I turn everything on I get the pop. But as I turn the volume knob up on the fbox for the first or second time of each session I get some fierce crack sounds coming out. Any ideas?
