Really valuable advice, I mean really. Especially from a white guy with dreads. Must watch.

I did that journal entry thing for a month and it didn't seem to help.

lol what a fucking idiot.

Ok , Burial did not use soundforge. And this guy lost his credibility with his get up and then 30 seconds when he talks about Burial using multi track mode in soundforge. lol. Didn't exist.

And i just did some research and I actually knew this guy along time ago. He used to be based in edmonton. Ah this is funny. I wish i could find old pictures of this guy. And he is lying thru his teeth about his past.

So i listened to it while i was dusting my apartment and he is just regurgitating things that more famous successful people have said prior much of it merely an opinion that has no actual consensus if it is the best or even a good way. He doesn't really bring his work into it, and he is overly prescriptive. I disagree with his approach that you shouldn't think. I get where he is coming from but in my experience, it is better to think more , then work smart.

And it isn't like he is working for some corporate venture that has millions invested and you have to be done by this day or you will never work again. This type of work requires a sort of ability to just finish regardless of the quality. Now this is commercial work and i understand it, i do it but i think EDM is in the realms of artistry and i think part of the reason music is really bad lately is that too many people don't spend enough time thinking, making something so tailored and unique that it is something nobody else could do because the more time you spend on something, the more your own style gets imprinted.

I honestly don't get why this person is giving talks. He is rather green, rather unacomplished and why people want to hear his opinion puzzles me.

lots of good stuff in there, cheers

i think the bit about getting up early in the morning and getting in the studio asap is very true, its really easy to lie in when you have a day off that could be used for music making.

His thing about not over thinking things does not convince me in this world now where thousands of tracks are being made every day meaning it's more important than ever to do something different.

If your'e just ploughing on quickly as he suggests, then surely you'll be mirroring what 1 million other bedroom producers are doing.

We admire a carved block of stone in a Church because we get a sense of the effort involved.

the guy has such a small body of work of which i would say is rather poor and lacking in novelty. I honestly don't get why this person is giving advice. He is also factually incorrect in his little bit about the brain. I mean it is a pretty ad hoc presentation with little substance. But fuck did he spend time on his hipster image. I mean he nailed that douchebag you know i 'm into the cool kind of dubstep look.

I saw a dude like that is Tesco yesterday shopping with an iPad.

For some reason I wanted to bully him, and I usually save that for people who do the same to others.

So are you guys going to actually talk about the advice he gives or just continue to attack his appearance (which means nothing)

See if you can find some old pictures L4C, that is the most important thing to take away from this presentation, what he used to look like.

The people who care about what they do are going to over-think it regardless, but it gets to a point where it's just debilitating and doesn't serve the artform anymore. It's important to recognize when you are just spinning your wheels. To clarify I think he just means don't break yourself out of the creative flow by second guessing like the cutoff frequency of your bass patch, that shit can be polished over later after you get something solid down

Reso's tut on this track pretty much confirmed what ill Gates was explaining. Reso drank coffee and banged out the track.

I think Armin said the best tracks he writes usually come together in 3-4 hours. (this probably doesn't include additional production time)

so basically stating the obvious. How anyone saw this and thought it was insightful blows me away. There is no substance what so ever. This is just a music version of those shitty self help books that state the most mundane trivialities. Make time for yourself. Wow thanks.

I suppose there would be more to discuss than his dubstep costume if there was actual substance. There isn't.
