Earthshine: The new model for Progressive Trance?
I had a realization the other day while I was listening to this album. I know an artist that primarily writes psychedelic downtempo/ambient is an unlikely cantidate to set the standard for progressive trance, but I think he did with this album.
Every track has all the programming qualities of progressive house and trance that made the genres good. Long droning builds, fades and drops, subtle but steady progression and different motifs through each track. Meaningful and endearing melodies, without having to be cheesy. Does this mean that melodies should now revolve around more atmospheric soundscapes? I do not believe so, but it's hard to argue with the recipe that Magnus has concocted.
(Note because of some of the more galloping bass lines some would consider a couple of the tracks Psy-trance)
Discuss.

Are you clarifying for all the kiddies out there that the artists name isn't Earthshine?

No. I guess that was kind of an odd turn of phrase.
"Summer" was probably my favorite trance track of 2007.

Summer is one of those tracks the first time you hear it the immediate thought is 'damn this is good'.

Owien, that is unrelated to this thread, but definitely thank you for the heads up on that one. I'm going to be getting that album.
