The 15 most influential people in dance music history

I think this is a lovely stupid thing to argue about. Starting with the birth of Techno & House, so no Kraftwerk and shit. Groups count as a single person. Here's my try at a list.

01 Richie Hawtin
02 Sven Väth
03 Tiesto
04 Goldie
05 The Prodigy
06 Paul Oakenfold
07 Frankie Knuckles
08 Daft Punk
09 Aphex Twin
10 UR
11 MK
12 Phuture (for one fucking track)
13 Tom Middleton
14 Juan Atkins
15 Kevin Saunderson

People that didn't quite make it into the list:
Basic Channel, Larry Levan, Adonis, Marshal Jefferson, Armin, EL-B, DMZ, The Chemical Brothers, LTJ Bukem, Derrick May, The Black Dog

Why is Tom Middleton on there?

Also, should Tiesto and Oakenfold both be on there? I would say if we were to pick just one of the two, it should be Oakenfold. But I don't know, maybe there could be a case for having both...

His material on Evolution as well as "76:14" served as a major blueprint for Ambient, Techno and IDM. Although maybe someone else is more deserving, not shure.

As for Tiesto and Oakenfold, I think they both deserve to be on there, though Oakenfold obviously is more important in the bigger picture. And I forgot about Pete Tong, that guy totally belongs on the list.

Ambient isn't dance music. But I'll take your word for it about the techno influence, since I don't know my techno as well as other stuff.

Reading is hard And I've always thought BoC are pretty unique and didn't influence anyone a whole lot.

Good calls. I've never been into most of the popular 90s groups so I'm kind of discriminatory against them

By the way, order doesn't matter. Mine has a random order, too.

BoC influenced a lot of people, but I'm not sure most of them would be best classed under dance music.

Being a big Richie Hawtin fan myself, how come you chose him as your #1?
