I use hardware, well i got a virus c but using a delta 44 soundcard i play it into the pc and use cubase as a mixer. If youve only got one bit of hardware you dont need a mixing desk, just use the mixer in cubase and get a descent soundcard. As for drums use reason, its better than ne drum machine(in my opinion). Softwares the way forward neway, try n get a mix of both software and hardware, using just hardware if your already using just software seems a bit of a drastic change and an expensive one to!

Hi,

I would buy a sampler. Like the MPCs from Akai. These consist a sequenser, so if the sequenser is not to limited you don't even need Cubase for sequensing or something like that. There are loads of sample cds that have everything you need to make music. These are not expensive so you can easily expand you sound collection with cds instead of buying new synths for sounds. If you want to use your CS2X too you will need a mixer, but you can also sample those sounds with youre sampler. If you want a program for recording you can get Cubase, Cakewalk Sonar, or Logic if you have a Mac.

I play the virus into a delta44 and use it in realtime using cubase as a mixer so you dont actually need a hardware mixer. Akai sampler would be good, altho id rather have a program which converted akai sample cds into nn19 patches or nnxt patches. I think there might be one, ne ideas neone?

i would not go for an mpc, unless you want to go live. You've already got a synth with onboard sample synthesis (cs2x) so i would now consider buying a (virtual) analog synth such as virus c, supernova, waldorf q (or their rack versions since you allready have a great keyboard). You'll go far further in terms of warm trance leads and pads then a sample based synth.

As far as hardware sequencing goes, the rm1x (or rs7000) are the best thing to get i think. It's like a cubase in hardware. (mpc for live)

Dont use the redrum, use the nn19 for each drum sound, buy a drum sample cd n use effects over each drum sound. By effects i dont just mean reverb and delay. Use the filter on the nn19, applying an lfo over it can work well, fuk around with the pitch to and layer drum sounds over the top of each other running the same patterns. Try and aim for drum loops which are thick and complex and where you cant pick out specific drum sounds when a tune is at its peak. Its possible to make proffesional drums! Airbase does it!

If you're running a pc, use cubase as a mixer/sequencer and if you're running a mac, use logic. Don't use logic on a pc cos Macintosh bought out emagic and logic will no longer be available on pc, which means you won't be able to upgrade
