I'm trying to build a menu thats masked like this, but there's no fucking wayafter about step 5, where this guy goes goes into the coding that its this assed-out difficult. Someone that has a grasp on Flash plz tell me if i can skip this strange download "tween"crap.Do you
have to set the variables etc like shows, im sure theres a quicker way?
really don't know what your problem is as you were somewhat cryptic. Post the project file.
Sort of related. With HTML 5, flash just seems like a really bad way to go about your site. Especially for basic things like this. I can understand video made in a flash hosted by some CMS but outright flash that your browser needs to interpret is really bad web designing. And google can't index it. So your nice little website and the content won't be found on google if it is in flash format.
give me some advice. you think what this guys doing in the tut is mostly useless? css, should i use that? i hear html5 somehow elims the need for flash but i dunno. i want that masked rollover style menu.

i'm still not sure what your goal is. Flash isn't useless in that it is pretty basic and can teach you some things you can apply to anything. You can also do some pretty artistic stuff that looks really cool but you then need to use it in a way that web browsers will see it.
if you want to learn how to build websites.
start looking at CMS. I like joomla. For a simple rollover or drop down, you can just use javascript which is IOS friendly. There are so many free scripts around that you should focus more on the main aspects of web design which is organization and content management. For the visual stuff, unless you are an artist, leave that to the them and use scripts.
I once made a flash cartoon porno on a busride to NYC. GIrlfriend was not impressed.
but i am an amateur so maybe do some research. But it is a good skill to have and isn't that hard to learn well learn enough to make a good website that is functional. The skill in web design is no longer in the look as technology has sort of demanded very minimal and functional but rather getting it to work with all those other say social media platforms and what not. But again, there are scripts for all that stuff.

See, if I can get that minimal dropdown menu where the menus activated based on "hit area" using anything less confusing id be happy. I dont want that boring 2012 facebook looking shit with two colors and bold helvetica taking up 80% of the screen. This will be a portfolio page withdrop menus and photography. That whole lazy approach just isnt my style. Im not gonna have hipsters iphoning my shit anywaay. i wanna make something i will enjoy myself.
And that minimal drop down can easily be done without flash. Beatport no longer uses flash. This might be news but iphones are no longer the realm of hipsters. So if you want 50% of the people not able to see your website, then flash is what you want.
Design, layout.. execution, wouldnt say done, easier im sure with new code. I almost twisted a nut trying to learn flash.
omg // btw.
the middle of that beer page is xactly wut u like and i despise. lazy i-gen non inspired blah.

Java is kind of on the outs for UI stuff (does anyone actually like applets? lol), so I wouldn't bother with that. Javascript on the other hand is being revitalized in a few ways at the moment.
In terms of language, ActionScript and Javascript are basically the same thing under the hood, so if you learn one you will find the other easy to pick up:
