Yes... though it was quite rare. Both male and female.
One of the most remarkable professors I've ever had was an African Indian (father from Mozambique, mother from Goa), who taught political science.
I was very embarrassed on the first day because this old pale guy behind me kept poking me and, when I turned around, he asked "is that nigga the teacher?". The professor heard his question, and before I could say anything, he answered politely "yes, I'm in charge of this class" - though not without me staring at him incredulous, wondering how the hell he was able to keep his cool.
The guy was an admirable human being. On a side note, he spoke a language with clicks as his mother tongue, though I can't remember which it was
