Falling asleep at the wheel
So today I was on my way to work and probably had the worst case of "dozing off" at the wheel. to the point where I "woke up" and the drivers side was over the white line on the right hand side....literally just a foot more over and I would have flown off the road (one lane road on either direction in the middle of the woods). I don't quite understand why I dosed off....I'm a little sick right now, but this was really bad. And I wasn't really *feeling* tired....my eyes just got heavy and the next thing I know I was almost off the road. Very scary experience
anyone else have anything like this? I'm wondering if I have a certain vitamin deficiency? The drive to work is very boring (and I've only been here for a month, now)....it's all highway driving on a 4-lane or 2-lane road in the woods. My truck is very comfortable....maybe I'm just overly relaxed?

How can you guys do that?! Loads of friends have done the same, and many crashed, but I can't see how you can even relax when you're driving - it's so uncomfortable!
I guess I just can't sleep unless I'm lying down

I can sleep just about anywhere. whenever I fly ...literally about 4 minutes after I sit on the airplane seat, I fall asleep...wake up somewhere midflight, fall back asleep, and then wake up right before we land.

Holy shit, I'm glad you're ok! What a terrifying thought.
And I agree with Lira, I don't understand at all how people can fall asleep at the wheel. I have a hard enough time falling asleep lying down, in complete darkness and silence.
Take a multivitamin daily and eat right.

See, I have a harder time falling asleep in dead silence...if there's some kind of background noise it helps me fall asleep.
during normal sleep at night, I really sleep HARD. I always wake up for my alarm, but if anything happens in the middle of the night, I don't ever wake up for it. or rarely do, at least.

When I start feeling sleepy on the road I start singing along with the music. Seems to keep me awake. But yeah long drives with big boring roads with no corners seem to do it..

Yeah, I've done that in past - or I've called someone and talked to them which helps.

Happened to me about 5 years ago. It was in the middle of the day, maybe 2 or 3 PM, and I just completely dozed off for a second. Luckily my brother was sitting in the passenger seat and noticed right away. I slept well during the night so I definitely wasn't sleep deprived, I just remember it was a really boring drive from like Columbus to West Virginia or something. Thankfully it hasn't happened since.

Last night
I was running on a collective 9 hours of sleep for the past three days, and driving 100 miles at 3 in the morning...Never again.
