what is the distinction between a rave and festival?

i imagine as festivals being outdoors, exceeding 10K in people attending, multiple stages and $12 domestic/$15 imported beers.

Old MacDonald's rave in Lancaster(dont remember the year)
2001 UMF cuz it was our first one.
pretty much all the EDCs going way back....some for the music but towards the end, more fun with the friends we hang with
2010 one in London(name escapes me at the moment) just cause we were in London. totally different vibe.

there are others but my mind is not working at the moment.

All of the above pretty much meet your criteria. Except for purple shield which started as a DP than it became a carnival.
