MIDI Modules/tone generators

Hi all,

I have my groovebox (a Yamaha RM1x) for three years. Now, I'm bored with all the standard voices in the groovebox. You can't even update or add/remove voices; you have to deal with the voices you have (and edit them a bit, but after a while, it's so booooring). So now, I'm looking for a sound/MIDI module, which I can monitoring from my groovebox. Is there anyone who can recommend me a few MIDI/sound modules? I'd prefer Yamaha or EMU modules, as they are supposed to give no troubles with the RM1x. I've been searching and I found the FS1x, and the MU-15. But the market is so large...so people, give me ur experiences with MIDI modules/tone generators.

Greeetz,

Gloomy

what do you mean by midi module. Are you talking about a synth module?

Yes, a synth module. Actually, what I found on the net is called a 'tone generator'. But it seems like sound/MIDI module and tone generator is used for the same...whatever. What I'm looking for is a module with a lot of new sounds (trance oriented sounds if possible), and lots of new effects. No need to make patterns or so, I'm already doing this with my groovebox. But instead of using my preset voices stored in my groovebox, I'd like to use a midi controlled module, and use the sounds and effects of this module.

Man, there's so many out there. I guess it depends on what sounds you want to be creating and ultimately, how much you want to spend. Try here for a decent listing of synths. Obviously, ignore the ones that look like keyboards cos they're not modules. although many keyboards come in module form as well.

I can recommend the Micro Q. It's an virtual analog synth module wich is perfect for trance music. I own one and I'm very happy with it. It has 300 sounds, 25 voices (wich can be expanded to 75 voices.), it's 16 part multitembral, and you can make your own sounds easily with it.
