Hi,

I've been saving my money for a while to buy a decent sequencer (mc505 has become too small ) and now I have to decide what to buy. Is hardware really able to sequence a whole track where you just have to hit play and all the rest is automated (ex track mutes, filter sweepes, envelope changes, volume changes, ...) like you can with cubase, sonar 2,..)
Is there a hardw sequencer out there where you can connect a monitor so you can see a pianoroll etc.. ? (should be affordable too )

What do you guys recommand?
For software I've been thinking about cubase and sonar 2 xl
For hardware : yammie rm1x, akai mpc2000 xl

I prefere hardware on software but I don't wanna give double the amount of money just for hardware if you can do the same with software.

Hardware for doing live stuff, software for doing actual production without a doubt.

Software rocks for sequencing. It's so much easier and IMO allows you to do much more because of the visual interface. I used to use the sequencer on my XP-50 and once I switched to software I've never looked back.

hardware isnt really that necessary when it comes to making electronica tracks, digital is just becoming so much more advanced and cheaper to implement (and capturing that same 'analogue type' sound).
hardware is used more with recording and mixing live bands

Also, if you don't have that many pieces of hardware, for example if you only have the groovebox, then you're better off going with software. Something like cubase xs or logic platinum. They will do you fine for writing tracks. If you are playing out live as someone else said, then you may want hardware.

I think there is also a program called "live" by propellerhead. I'm not sure if i got that right, i think i did. Anyway, this is for performing live although i have absolutely no idea how good/stable it is for live performances.

The live prog (from ableton) is only for audio loops so it is not very usefull for me. I don't have only the groovebox, i also have an a3000, waldorf microq and yammie an1x but this makes only things more complicated and worse to sequence this on the mc505 since you can not assign midi channels per track so I really need something else. I think im going for software now (cubase) and i'm gonna buy an mpc2000 for later on if I wanna go for a very decent live. Thx for the advice
