Rewards Programs

There are lots of ways out there to gain some "points" via purchases. Whether it's in a credit card, debit card, checking account, etc...

what are some of the ones you guys use? I am a fan of my Amazon Chase card -- 3 pts per dollar on all amazon purchases, 2 pts on gas/restaraunts, and 1pt on all purchases.

points can then be in turn transferred to amazon itself and used to pay for items. or you can redeem for gift cards.

My Mastercard gets reward points on all purchases (and sometimes double/triple points on some promotions), so I tend to use it for everything. I can redeem them for stuff on their rewards list, or as just as straight up cash paid onto my card, which is what I've always done.

I participate in quite a few reward programs, but by far, the most important one for me, is the British Airways Executive Club.

Through this program alone, I've racked up 300,000 miles this year and acquired a decent One World Alliance status. Amongst numerous other benefits, the miles, which I can spend on reward flights (using equivalent avios points) are awesome.... as an example, I can usually get a return flight to central Europe for circa 9,000 miles/avios points. So I have lots of free flights to use up!

So yeah, quite a rewarding program for me.

I currently work for a loyalty rewards startup, and while I think it's an interesting idea, I'm not sure our particular company will catch on.

A few months ago, I picked up a miles card, and I'd say I'm hooked (going to Norway in the summer). If companies want to give me free stuff when I pay the card off in full each month, I won't stop them.

How many points do you need to redeem 1 dollar

this is the key here.. i hate point systems because they always emphasize on how many pionts you can get, but pay very little attention to how many pionts GIVE you a dollar to redeem. usually its about 1 to 2% cash

Yeah, they rarely make it clear.

25,000 points gets me about $180 back in cash. Regular purchases are 1 to 2 points per dollar I spend, but there are often promotions at supermarkets/tons of other places that get double/triple/quadruple points.

It doesn't really matter though. As long as I keep the card paid off every month, I pay no interest, so it's just free money.

It's nice when you forget about it for 6 months and then get to redeem a bunch of cash out of nowhere

I got a couple of mugs from Nescafé for drinking copious amounts of cappuccino. That's about it.

truth. For Amazon, 1 pt = 1 cent (or 100 pts = 1 dollar, however you want to look at it).

as far as being a "debt slave" , you aren't really one if you pay your bill every month, and don't have any interest accumulate.

There are also checking accounts/debit cards with similar rewards programs - where you earn points/dollars with your own debit card/checking account -- so there's no credit involved at all.

so for every 70$ you spend you get a dollar back, and that looks liek a high estimate

that comes out to 1.43 % back on your purchases which isnt bad.

that was 138 points redeems 1 dollar
get 1 point for every 0.50$ spent
2 points for every 1$

138/2 = 69 $ to redeem 1 $

1/69 = 1.4 %
