Bangers and Mash [Silly Banging Techno]

Hey guys, wanted to share a new mix I recorded yesterday. This one's actually for a competition; I probably wouldn't otherwise post something like this unless it was a live recording.

Also, I know I've been terrible in terms of listening to mixes and giving feedback, so I'm not expecting a lot in terms of feedback.

Dig in...

Steve Poindexter - Computer Madness (Function Vs Jerome Sydenham Remix)
Eduardo De La Calle - Speedlight Speedmind (ROD Remix)
Alan Fitzpatrick - 9 Hours Later (Markus Suckut Redefinition 1)
Chevel - Fringe
Maan - Jackin'
Patrick Gil - Tiger in the Alley (Jeroen Search Remix)
Truncate - Transients V1
Manzel - Manzel D
Pfirter - Multiverse (Markus Suckut Remix)
Stephen Brown - Polar (Ben Sims Remix)
Nina Kraviz - Ghetto Kraviz (Steve Rachmad Scorp Interpretation)
Kirk Degiorgio & Ben Sims - Machine Theme (Ben Sims Dub)
Exploit - Fraction (Unbalance Remix)
Sawlin - Restless (MRSK Strip Version)
Perc - Pure & Simple (Ben Sims Warehouse Remix)
Phase - Behind The Sun
Stephen Brown - Chopping Board (Maarten Mittendorff & Jasper Wolff Rework)

Enjoy

Ah man... I was eager to listen to this based on the thread title, but it doesn't actually look very banging at all.

Doesn't have to be 140 bpm to hit hard

Wisdom To The Wise still clocks in at a cool 134 BPM. Although I don't think BPM is that important in a home mix.

I mean these tracks would shred a club but for a headphone mix you have to play harder to get the same intensity.

If you are still craving for the tunnel-into-submission thing Jack, I've been planning to do one of those for a while and I hope I can get one out before new years. It's actually not that easy to bang it out on headphones and requires some planning because you don't have the pressure of a soundsystem and can't just dabble around like in a club set.

134 really isn't that fast. It's only a couple of BPM above this set, and Wisdom To The Wise is far harder than anything here. I had a skim through to see if I was wrong, and I really just do not think the majority of this set is remotely banging. The section around Adam's avatar record comes close, but the "silly banging" decription just gave me a different expectation, because I would call this very sensible.

Yea well like I said this was for a specific purpose (contest) and this is what it called for. It's intended to be a club set, in fact I played many of these tracks at this place a few weeks ago. I figured some might enjoy so I posted it.

Jack; I think I'm just not used to fast music anymore like you are. I used to listen to a lot of psy trance but that was up until around 7 years ago. So I think I'm just used to slower music these days and that's why this feels more banging to me than to you. That Dave Clarke track is insane though. I might have to get it.

Wait Adam, you don't have the Archives? What kind of DJ are you? Protective Custody/Storm/Thunder/Wisdom To The Wise are absolute must have classics.

You're right Adam, and don't get me wrong: I'm not critising the set. I just was hoping to hear you play some hard stuff for a change.

And if you think Wisdom To The Wise is insane, wait until you've heard CJ Bolland play it at an eye-watering +12 on his 1994 Essential Mix. That is my yardstick for banging techno.

If it was available digitally I would have had some of the tracks by now I'm sure. I've only been buying records for a couple of years so I still have a lot to discover.

It is. http://www.discogs.com/Dave-Clarke-...ne/master/44815

And there's this funny anecdote in Techno Rebels where Juan Atkins went to Belgium for the first time and the club he went to had the turntables rigged (so they can go up to +12) and permanently at +12. He was absolutely shocked, almost disgusted, as to what these people did with the music he and his friends invented.
