Actually, most of the posts in this subforum are by the artists themselves, not by agents or promoters.
I agree with no making things downloadable. If anything, its an instant not signed. If the artist never anticipates shopping the tune, then I can understand.
I don't think labels are turned away from songs on Soundcloud really - but Youtube doesn't help in most cases. Mass mailing tracks to a bunch of different labels doesn't either.
If you're shopping a tune for signage, pick your top 5 labels that you think you could actually get signed to and want to be a part of. Send it to each one individually and don't be sad if a label doesn't respond, the mailbox is flooded with demos because people don't put the thought behind it.
Also, be sure to properly put MP3 tags and file name your demo correctly. In other words, make sure it has Artist - Title (Mix). Don't send Works in progress either (aka WIPs). If you keep sending WIPs, labels will ignore you.
I know I went off topic, but since I A&R I figured I'd put in some advice.
Streaming in your post should be more than easy enough for people to respond in this forum in my honest opinion.
