i'm building a new tech house serato crate and would like some suggestions, and opinions about the style.
i find tech house is the most exciting form of dance today.
it has elements from the other subgenres, but without the drawbacks.
it has the energy - nice bold, sharp percussion. it doesn't shy away from a little melody and has nice groove... it is the opposite of the minimal movement. i.e. not boring!!
what do you think of these examples, whether they qualify as tech house, and what examples can you give?

Sorry, but not only are these tracks you posted some of the most cookie cutter, boring and uninspired dance music you can imagine to anyone with even the slightest interest in cutting edge dance music but you are also about 5 years to late.

Of course I did. I'm laughing because you are spouting an incredibly absurd statement. Saying modern tech house is exciting is like saying modern uplifting trance is the pinnacle of creative and credible dance music.
either way, checked out a few tracks from that old thread... i'm not after that monochrome lifeless drab tech-house of yore, utter borefest. would rather stab myself. or commit suicide by listening to minimal... which you probably enjoy.
wouldn't like to hear your idea of exciting!!
you expect me to think you listened to they three tracks after you have just written off an entire genre with your sweeping generalisations?!

two cracking tracks. been examining the tracklists from the hybrid sets in have in my car, great stuff. you can download the sets on soundcloud, recommended.
There should also be a link to an Adam420-thread in this thread which focuses more on melodic techno.

Hybrid Dec 2010 Transitions mix
Hybrid SoundSystem Frisky DJ Mix June 2011
and the tracks...
No offense but not only do these sound generic and boring but they also sound a little on the prog house side to me, just my opinion.
The first 3 samples you showed are no diamonds in the rough either.

you just still want to listen to something that will slightly resemble trance, because you like it, you want to hear the familiar hints of melody, so you post that funk d'void track, and the DJ Koze one, which are not tech house, but I can understand where you're digging, and as an advice, I'd say you should dig more into prog house, and if you're feeling a bit more exploratory then dig through Kompakt's catalogues, and through sets by Prince Thomas (He usually plays disco, and some amazingly blissful electronic pieces, melodic, driving, touching, don't know where he takes them from, but ignore the disco) and Apparat for instance.
And btw, saying about the likes of soul capsule and the rest of the songs in the thread that woony posted, that they are "monochrome lifeless drab tech-house of yore" Is fucking stupid. And that's good tech house, and you are 5 years too late, wave to Ricardo.
And here's a recommendation for you, and It's not tech house, you'll probably like his productions

Levels is...decent...damn better than a lot of the shite dominating the charts at the moment. It sounds absolutely nothing like...a billion and one similar tracks in this big-room style. I always had a soft spot.
