Headphone Decision: AKG K240 MKII or AKG K702

Hello guys, my old headphone died yesterday and I need to buy one today on eBay.

Help to decide. The K702 costs 3 times more... But I don't care about this! "I'm buying my headphone for the next 10 years"

Wich of these two AKG models translate the mixing better?

I don't have a place to test them in my city...

ps.: Talk about Sennheiser is prohibited here since I've had bad experiences with replacing the cushions and cables a lot of times...

Im using the AKG K240 Studio. They sound clean and transparent and they are comfy, you can wear them for hours and still forget were you have left them. The Bass will crackle at high volumes tho. But on the other hand never mix down to loud. You'll have a hard time finding any better in that price range.

On a more serious note, I use headphones to simulate what different audiences would listen to a track. I have a pair of HD 280 for the higher end consumer, and a pair of TMA-1 headphones which are designed for DJing.

If the mix translates on my monitors well, and both my headphones, I take it to my laptop, my ipod headphones and in each stage I A/B with professional sounding mixes and give it a go.

My mixing is not flawless, but I certainly get a better mix from listening on different sources than a single source.

Any headphones will always give a certain result of a mix. Some people like to get a specific headphone to mix with because it translates into a mix that compensates for a headphone's deficiencies. Now even if you get a theoretically perfectly flat pair of cans, it will probably not translate into great mixes.

My advice, go to the local headphone store with some of the best professionally mixed music that you enjoy, and try it on different headphones where you feel gives you the most accurate feel for what the music really is, take it home, and mix your tracks to sound like what you hear.

Why don't you try something alternative instead?

Since you got money to spend try these: http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/info/...000+USB+Headset

Only 60$.

i've got the k702 and as i do like them alot, i think the soundstage in them is a bit exaggerated and tricky to get a track done properly in them. also the burn-in time with them is insane, i hated them when i first got them (no bass, weak high's) but after leaving itunes on 24/7 with them blasting for a good 2 weeks, the drivers finally opened up and now they sound great. also the bass response since they are open, is a bit lacking, so be sure you do have trusty monitors to check your mixes.

i was also told the beyerdynamic dt880 or the sennheiser hd650 might be better suited for edm. i haven't tried them though.
