WTF

I tripped on a step coming into my place and landed on my foot really awkwardly, I thought my entire foot was broken because of the massive amount of swelling.

ER Doctor sends me for an X-Ray. Turns out I have a major fracture of the big toe on my left foot.

The thing that amazes me about this is the amount of pain involved. I might just be a pussy but the ER doctor wrote my a script for a painkiller called dilaudid and told me to take one every 3 hours.

I also had to go to a medical supply store to purchase one of those air casts. I have to admit its a lot more comfortable than a plaster cast (Which I've had before) and it allows me to put weight on the injured foot.

This all happened last week. I also saw the Orthopedic Doctor and he told me to get a CT scan of my toe.

Anyway....

Just wondering if anyone else has broken their foot or toe, and I'm curious to see how your experience was.

Ah that sucks man. Dilaudid is good stuff though, haha. Surprised he gave you a script for that and not T3s.

When I was in either 7th or 8th grade, I was in gym, playing soccer. I was fighting for the ball with another student, who was quite a bit bigger than me. He kicked my right foot so hard, he broke my big toe and chipped the bone off of my next smallest toe. I walked on the foot the whole day, limping, then got home and both those toes were swollen to double their normal size. I got a medical shoe, some medical tape, and was excused from gym for the rest of the semester. And that guy that kicked me...was super apologetic. I said it was ok, because I didnt have to go to gym anymore! (I hated that teacher, but I was also a fat nerd, so there was that).

Pain for me was bad the first day, but I was fine afterwards. I was still completely functional (well, except the limp) that first day, and I didnt get any painkillers.

Ouch. Never broke it but the amount pain you describe sounds right, there's a shitload of bones and nerves in your foot. Ice that shit.

I was sitting on my ass for 3 days. Nearly drove me nuts. So I bought a cane and returned to work and class.

And one thing is for sure... There is no way I'm asking for another script of this dilaudid stuff. It gets rid of the pain but I've never felt so stoned.

I had a friend who broke his big toe by accidentally kicking the floor in a sports hall while we were playing five-a-side football. Funnily enough I've done exactly the same thing on a concrete school yard and although it hurt like hell and broke off most of the toenail, it didn't break the bone.

I've broken my wrists a few times in various sports, but never a toe. Definitely jammed the fuck out of a few, though. God damn that shit's painful.
