Shame / Disagreement Hmmm

it's long, but very interesting...read if you have time.

This was in 1987

At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt. Col. Oliver North or, "Ollie" testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration. There was Lt. Col. Oliver in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by some senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. "Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.

By the way, that senator was Al Gore

Also: Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners." However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands. The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released. Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified.

It was censored in the US from all later reports.

hmm indeed. where's this clip that they spoke of cause i wanna see it for myself. still...i think gore didn't see this "osama bin laden" at the time a threat cause it didn't happen to him. looking at it now would naturally make us go "OMG" but it was only one man's testimony at that time...i don't know what to think right now

I think that there are a lot of issues like this that have happened, but since the media chooses to control what people see, we are stuck with a bunch of ignorant people trying to make biased opinions. I think it is especially true of the European countries and their negative views towards the United States. A lot of people being followers. Oh, lets bash America, even though our economy would be shit without them, it's cool to bash America at every chance we get. Hey, lets start by making posts on Tranceaddict.com!!!

Yes, and the American media also creates a bunch of ignorant people in the States who don't realize a lot of things that are going on which end up angering European nations (as well as others around the world).

I know that this thread wasn't bashing the US, I just took advantage of the subject to vent a little.

As far as the media controlling what people say, I just read a story yesterday that showed how biased the media is against going to war with IRAQ. Stuff like showing an anti war on Iraq senator's entire speach while only including a couple of excerpts of Bush'es speech and leaving out many of his major points. This is starting to happen more and more. We don't get to hear fair reporting anymore, anywhere.

How many of you heard about the terrorist that starting shooting people (and killed some) at the LAX airport on July 4th 2002? Did you know it was a terrorist act? Oh, so now, how many of you know about that criminal that got beat up by the police at the gas station? What are you going to pay more attention to? What is more important to you?
What is more of a threat to your life and your friends and family?

i just thought the article was interesting. i dont believe the "bashing" was directed to America in general. it was more towards Al Gore and Clinton. it also said that this story was later withdrawn from the media shortly after the 9/11 tradegy. i know there was no way of Al Gore or Clinton or Warren Christopher knowing that those terrorists would do this 10 years later. it IS ironic though that a part of our military was well aware of the danger that he imposed on amerians and our country and on ANYONE for that matter. it seems to me that politicians are always skeptical to take advice from high ranking military officers...i mean what would THEY know?? they've only faught in war and dealt w/ the enemy face to face....

and linx, i dont know about finding this article and actually seeing where it was printed...i recieved it in a fwd. so who knows. i'll try to look for it though.
