Rewind?

i was at an oakenfold set where he was spinning iguana and right before the melody hit he rewound it exactly one phrase. you couldnt really notice it unless you were waiting for the melody. anyone know how this is done?

there is a Plug-In for Technics that allows you to back-spinn records.
you just push Start/Stop button, 2 times very fast when its playin and then 2 times again to make it run as usually again.

to actually figure out what they did we need some more info...
like, did you hear a spinback?
was the track all of a sudden playing in reverse?
or was it just an extra phrase in there?

cause if it was just an extra phrase, then it's either a sampler or 2nd copy of the track

yea i heard a spinback but it was really quick like in the span of less than a second. but in that quick spinback he rewound the song around 16 beats.

in that case he probably used 2 records...

mixed it in...then when the time came spun it back and kicked in the second record in the exact spot (16 beats back)

Ya, i thought the Brainbug-nightmare things was sweet. I think it was more something you do in the moment, it wouldn't sound good in a studio, but when ur there at the club its something different so it makes it better in my opinion.

Yeah it’s deffo done with 2 copies of a record. It’s easy to pull off with practice. Be warned on some tracks it sounds dire. Not something I recommend just doing with out having had a wee practice at home first to get the feel for it right and see which tracks it works with. I’ve done it before live a few times and it can either a) Send everyone who’s on the dance floor loopy and go down great or b) Send everyone who’s on the dance floor mad because you’ve killed the vibe. I personally think a happens on average more times than b. If your not very good at throwing in tracks or you can’t afford another copy, the best bet is to burn a copy of the track you want to do it with onto CD. That way no throwing in is needed and you only need pay for a CD-R.
