MR. Dave Smith Debuts Prophet 12 Module $2199.00

Have enough keys in your rig, but still want to add that great Prophet 12 sound? Dave Smith Instruments has the answer, the Prophet 12 Module! The Prophet 12 Module boasts all the same power and sonics as the Prophet 12 Keyboard, including 12 voice polyphony, hybrid digital/analog architecture, a digital character effects section, resonant Curtis filters, four loopable 5-stage envelope generators, four syncable LFOs, a 16-slot modulation matrix, and much more.

Parameters for each synth section are instantly accessible with one button press, and the rugged steel enclosure is equally at home on the desktop, in a rack, onstage or in the studio. Extensive MIDI implementation covers every parameter on the synth for use with any MIDI controller or DAW.

Check out this video introduction to the Prophet 12 Module:

From Our Research Team:

Prophet 12 Mojo in a Space-saving Module
Everything you love about the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12 is in the Prophet 12 Module, in a compact format you can fit in your backpack. It's got the same voice board, the same analog filters, and even most of the same back-panel connections as its big brother. On top of flexible oscillators and awesome filters, the Prophet 12 Module's unique feedback section alone has every synth fan at here at Sweetwater wishing they had one. Factor in powerful wave-shaping and sound-sculpting capabilities, per-voice four-tap stereo delays, an arpeggiator, and bi-timbral operation, and you've got an ideal synth for both production and performance.

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12 Module Polyphonic Synthesizer at a Glance:
Mind-blowing sonic firepower
Shape your sounds intuitively with Character
Designed by an synth legend

Mind-blowing sonic firepower
Dave Smith Instruments' Prophet 12 Module packs stunning firepower. The sonic range of this synth's voice architecture is staggering. With 48 oscillators in the engine room (plus 12 sub-oscillators), there's no limit to your creativity. And once you've created a patch (or grabbed one of the awesome-sounding presets), you get a universe of deep modulation and effects options to massage it into something never heard before. In addition to the Character section, the Prophet 12 Module offers an army of envelopes, LFOs, delays, and an arpeggiator that can all be synced.

Shape your sounds intuitively with Character
The Prophet 12 Module's Character section gives you powerful, intuitive wave-shaping and sound-sculpting control. With parameter descriptions like Drive, Hack, Decimation, Girth, or Air, there's little left to the imagination as to what it'll do to your sound. Prepare to be amazed. And delighted.

Designed by a synth legend
Dave Smith was the design engineer and driving force behind Sequential Circuits, whose first product was the legendary Prophet 5 in 1977 - the first polyphonic synthesizer capable of storing the value of every parameter within its voicing and control systems. This was a watershed technological breakthrough, and the implications were staggering. Think about this: before the Prophet 5, it simply wasn't possible to enter a patch number into a synth and recall sounds you had stored. The Prophet 5 and its successors were hugely successful, finding their way into every top studio and major act's keyboard rig, and onto countless recordings by artists as diverse as Madonna and Weather Report! Impressive, yes - but Dave also had a hand in inventing a little thing called MIDI.

Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12 Module Polyphonic Synthesizer Features:
12 voices, each with four oscillators, sub-oscillator, low- and highpass filters, and analog VCAs
Character section adds a variety of wave shaping and sound sculpting options
Tuned feedback path, a four-tap stereo delay per voice, expanded arpeggiator functionality
Deep modulation capabilities, bi-timbral operation
Four LFOs and four envelopes per voice for extensive modulation possibilities
LFOs, delay, and arpeggiator can all be synced
Easy to integrate, with USB and MIDI in/out/thru

Dave Smith Instruments' Prophet 12 Module is a sonic beast!

Whatever justification is given, the lack of knobs on this thing is utterly absurd.

I agree, but the more I see/hear of this module, the more appealing it gets. The desktop Mono Evolver's matrix isn't all that bad, and the P12's interface seems to be even better IMO, the more I see it in action. I still think it's priced a little high, though. The full keyboard version is only $800 more and gives you dedicated knobs for just about everything and it has a nice Fatar keyboard and mod/pitch wheels. The Virus desktop, for example, is about $750 lower than the Polar/kybd versions, but all models include the same number of knobs, buttons, etc.

For me the price is irrelevant. When I'm programming synths I'm always playing a couple of parameters at the same time to find a sweet spot, and this just makes it impossible.

The interface decision is just bonkers.

Tetra is a totally different machine than the P12 , can't compare, more like a 5 voice P08
