What's happening with Paul van Dyk?
Okay following Wicked Neo's instructions in the other thread I make this one
So keep it cool.
My personal opinion on Paul van Dyk is that he's a great Dj to see live, he spins all the uplifting stuff etc... to get the crowd going...
But if I may compare him with dj's as Oakey, Sasha, Joof, etc...
I miss something in his sets, and that's the lack of atmosphere, I dont wanna hurt the pvd fans here, but if I compare his sets another dj I can say his spinning style is shortest to Johan Gielen.
Where is the time PVD builds his sets to absolute climaxes?
He just spins all the uplifting (and well known) tunes into eachother constantly letting the crowd go insane (see the Gielen comparison?)
I mean I much more like sets with a "warmer" atmosphere and with now and then absolute toppers and near the end absolutely building towards a climax. And here's why I like some easier tracks (also progressive) at the start of sets, not just throwing in all the bangin track the one after the other...
I wanna take the Parks & Wilson ess mix 2000 as an example.
This sets just floods over from atmosphere and the last 40 minutes are just breathtaking with absolute toppers. (check this one out if you didn't hear it yet!)
I dunno how it is for other people but when I started to listen to trance I also preferred PVD, Ferry etc...because all of the bangin tracks played. But what makes a Dj great is creating a journey through trance music (northern exposure on top here) and that's something PVD lacks (no offence here, he's a crowd dj).
If I go to clubs here in Belgium and some residents play stuff (I take Atmoz as an example) the crowd goes absolutely nuts on the hard club tunes, jump etc.. whatever...
Ok The crowd goes insane so the dj is great would one say...that's why a lot of u like PVD (If I see him life I will go insane too, I admit) but the fact of creating an "atmosphere" around a set proves to be a great dj (for me then)
And there's why I'm not a PVD, Ferry and Gielen fan.
Hey! Remember I like the tunes they play but not the set
Don't flame me now, just think twice about what I said.
