Thanks! Everything is going fairly well over here... it's a good place to be productive, as you can tell this project was conceived and executed here in Taiwan... and I'm really proud of how it came out!

I really enjoyed your track selection and flow for the ektoplazm best of release and I've really liked lots of your dj sets in the past. Dling now and listening to it soon! Care to share any comments about making mixes of this length? Doesn't it get hard attempting to remember and coordinate the moods of that many tracks?

Thanks! Yes, it would be difficult to keep everything in order without writing things down. I have developed my own system of meticulouos notation for use when composing a studio mix. I also spend an incredible amount of time getting to know the material I am drawing upon. Later, when it comes time to start recording, I refer back to those notes for guidance. My notes were particularly useful for this mix given its unusually broad musical scope and wide range of tempos (ranging from 0 to 128 BPM).

I recorded it in two sessions with about a week in between. I didn't actually know how the mix would end until about halfway through the second session (though I could visualize the "story arc" after finishing the first recording). Most of my work in composition was on the setup, building things from the ground up to really get the music flowing. The last third or so came together really quickly.

When I DJ in front of a live audience I use a completely different approach. I plan nothing and improvise everything, sometimes to the point of settling on an opening track only minutes before I begin. Playing out is all heart and intuition. Studio mixes are more brain and intellect. In this way I have two different ways to express my love of music.

A little more than a week after release and it's been streamed or downloaded nearly 12,000 times. Nice

If you missed it the first time around... give it a spin!
