Pronounced lack of good shows in Tampa/Orlando lately
Never thought I'd say this but I'm missing those shows we were getting in 2011, 2012 and first half of 2013. We had a bunch of really good DJs roll through Tampa and Orlando during that time period. Everyone from Martin Buttrich to Art Department to Adam Beyer to Carl Cox to Chus & Ceballos to Dubfire to Hernan Cattaneo to Marco Bailey not to mention countless others that have played some great shows.
Seems lately we are just getting some really small names at places like Hyde Park Cafe. I guess Technasia played Jackson's a month ago. And yeah I know Diggers and Oscar G just played here but the Oscar G show was a bust. No one came to support some good house music here in Tampa, disappointing to say the least. The Kennedy shows about a year to 18 months ago were off the chain, I went to all three of them: Sasha, Adam Beyer, Loco Dice. All seemed to be a great time and had pretty good sized crowds, especially Dice and Sasha. Even Nicole Moudaber at Martini Repulik, as much as that place blew hairy sacks, was freakin RAMMED.
Where's all the shows at? The little bit of the good scene that we actually had seems to have vanished. Senso boys and Sky 60 dropping legit music didn't help, I know. Sucks...
Sure, Joel Mull and Oliver Deutschmann recently at HPC is cool and all but that place just doesn't have a great party vibe. Half the cats in there don't know or don't give a shit about who or what DJ is playing. And the room on the right just doesn't have "it." Very amateur-ish room. TBH, much prefer the room the left. It pulls off that laid-back basement "cool" vibe much easier. It's a nice place to casually hang out and take in some good music but, yeah, doesn't have that big show feeling at all.
