Armin Talks about DJ Bashing !!!!

quote:

Helen: ...So how would you compare your own sound with other djs.?

Armin: Well i dont watch alot of other djs. To be honest, i haven’t heard another
dj set in its entirety over the past 3 years. I mean, ive heard the beginning of a Tiesto
set and the end of a Ferry set.....Ive never stayed on stage. I mean, ive heard half of Tenaglia's set at Space, Miami. I think that was 5hrs....and that is the longest ive heard Dj's, and other dj sets. You know, its just......I try to stay as uninfluenced as possible....and sometimes its really hard. One thing that strikes me the most is that my fans and the trance genre in general. Such as Trance.nu and Tranceaddict.com...the are nice people in general. Where as you go over to the GlobalUnderground website....Those guys....
They are all slapping you in the face. Its unbelievable!! (laughs and raises voice)

You should know that we Dj's talk amongst each other and i know i have the benefit of the doubt of the audience at the moment....but Tiesto has been hit in the face over the past few years..so hard ... and i think it is totally undeserved you know. Its the same for us djs....Its just like you guys. We are constantly trying to involve and trying to surprise you guys....and the audience, and with the message boards. You sometimes hear from others that they are not really fond of your productions. So your an asshole (laughs) That you made dust.wav and so on. So sometimes for us its really hard to cope with that, cause you know, when im in the studio its really hard you know....

If you go....you probably...like say both of you probably have produced yourselves, or try
to produce ..

Af for message boards he got that right. Over the global undergorund board its like a contest, people love putting them selves above you and try to make out they know so much more than you, just because they met digweed for 7 and a half minutes and have played infront of more than 70 people.

Deejays are always bashed....and sometimes rightfully so. You go see certain deejays live and they suck and you think why did I see him. Tiesto has been bashed for the correct reasons because his mixing has suffered in recent months and fans that liked him since 1998 are fed up with half ass efforts but then again, most people who bash deejays normally end up going to see them live anyway. Most deejays realize that most critics on messageboards are not old enough to see them live anyway. True fans will also tell it like is but they will still not give up. Also no dj can be on form all the time, deejays like sports players have their good and bad days. Armin Van Buuren realizes it that it comes with the territory of being a deejay, you get slagged in the press and on messageboards but he is not suffering a lack of bookings, so I don't think he cares.

Well, I expected somehow that DJs read such boards in secret. Everybody wants to know how his reputation and judgement is, so why not them? Additionally, DJing is art and artists are more depending on the public judgement and because of that they take it more serious then a fabric worker, right? Sometimes it is horrible disrespectful what some guys post and I can imagine, that hurts some DJs. So we as fans should show some respect towards that guys, even when we dont like their style. Then say that but take away all the bashing and blamings from your comments. Every human deserves respect but some seem to think the internet is without identity and they can play the strong and bash and slap people in the face where ever they find a possibility for it.

But I think they recognize the difference between he sucks....his set was awful..which they pay no attention to compared to his set was awful because of (insert decent reason here) and (insert decent reason here). Deejays love to hear opinions tho of their work, Sander Kleinenberg asked me what I thought of Nubreed 4 while he was signing my copy and I said that I hated the first half of cd 1 because I thought it was too deep, he said that lots of people like that but some did not like it but then I stated to him that cd 2 was amazing and happily stated why. I think deejays pay some attention to messageboards but I don't think they pay that much attention until they start to lose bookings. Same thing as politicians, they are hated by some and loved by others and every decision they make is taken apart by someone. But Armin realizes the following that you cannot please everyone!.

This moment in your life must be the pinnacle of your existance, because you attempt to somehow include this in at least 45% of your posts.

Isn't the fact that he asked you 'while he was signing your copy' completely irrelevant?

There is a big difference between bashing and critism.
