Agree with you there - I'm still learning how to properly do these 3 hour mixes. My idea was dancey/more energetic (90 mins) -> sexy/downtempo (60 mins) -> electronica/other/chill (30 mins) [times are estimates]. From a standard DJ set point of view, this is backwards, but doing things outside the norm and experimenting is one of my things I like to do
And ya some of the transitions are definitely pretty poor. The transition into Out There In The Random by Mocean Worker (around 26/27 mins for you lazies!) I am really unhappy with, for example. I've found it's really difficult to mix this type of music coherently with perfect transitions. It's a lot easier to do with standard build tracks (techno, house, trance, psychedelic, and so forth). With this type of music each track has a different structure, different beat pattern, etc. I think track selection and flow is more important, which I obviously need to still work on a bit!
Some of the mixing is off key for sure. Couldn't be helped. I know this has upset quite a few people but I dont feel strict harmonic mixing is the end all be all of transitioning. It's too restrictive.
Thanks for listening!!
edit:
Since you liked the last song, you'll probably like his entire EP. It's really good! Was released on Kastle's label. They've been releasing a ton of really good EPs lately
