Hello UKTA!

As some may remember I posted that I'll be headed your guys way on the 15th for a few days. On the 19th or 20th I want to head to Amsterdam, and I need your help again.

What is the cheapest way from London to Amsterdam? Plane or Train? Where would I book such a ticket, online?

Thanks for your guys help again...

Cheers,
Fats

Ferry is probably the cheapest at this time of year. I don't know about London's ferry system but from Newcastle (North East England) it is £49 return to Amsterdam. Check www.dfdsseaways.co.uk for more info. The advantage of this is that you get a bed rather than just a train or plane seat, which means you could go clubbing on Friday in the UK and get a good night's sleep on the ferry. The downside is that the journey takes 16 hours from Newcastle (probably less than half this time from London). Another problem is that Newcastle is 300 miles from London (we are about as close to Kirstiansand in Norway as we are to our own capital). However, if it is this cheap from Newcastle, there is probably an even cheaper ferry company in London as it's a lot closer to Amsterdam. I'll see if I can find anything.

This is cheaper than flying, as that is £40 single way with Easyjet from London Luton (if you really want to save the pennies, it is £35 to go from London Gatwick on Sat 19th October with Easyjet).

If you are in the North of England (where it is generally agreed the clubbing is better) upon time of leaving I would consider a ferry if I were you, but it all depends what is more important to you, cost or journey time?

Btw are you travelling return or single?

Hope this helps

Coup, are you sure it's $50 Canadian?

I checked easyjet and the cheapest flight is £40, which is $99 Canadian.

haha i must have cocked up on the converting! he only wants to go one way tho, not return. (i think) a nite flight out is £35 and takes 40mins in the air, ferry you're looking days at sea, and if its £40 return, prolly around £30 single way (id guess) so its a fivers difference.

Yeah if it's single way he should fly. But if he is going return then it's £40 ferry vs £80 plane.

I doubt the ferry takes that long, it is 16 hrs from Newcastle but we are like 3 or 4 times the distance compared to London.
