Yeah they may be able to kickstart an album but they can't kickstart a healthy creative relationship, and whether they've changed or the scene has changed, that's something they seemed to have lacked and never regained ever since they split. And despite citing the default 'creative differences' explanation for their split, I have to believe it was Dave Dresden, and his increasing instability, that played heavily into it.
very curious to what this will be. could it be produced by just one of them? is it new? it could it be refashioned old stuff from the vaults... surely the fans who paid into this are looking for that classic G+D sound. so i wonder if they will produce a more 'current' sound. maybe they are just trying to cash in on their name ala BT and his godawful kickstarter.
if you kick in $50, you get classic unreleased demo tracks. probably will be more interesting than the album.
32k already. dave seaman got 32k for his kickstarter mix (which is very good) G+D still have 25 days to go... album vs mix though.

the ideas for this album will have been floating around for a while now. they are just making people pay for it. it's the execution that's important. i can't see them making this for the progressive crowd, which their old music is more aligned with - but the trance scene has moved on considerably. so... who knows what this will end up like.

Music is a very risky thing to blindly put money into...kickstarting in general is risky, but music especially more so. When you've got people funding you for expectation of a product, if that product doesn't meet the expectations of those who funded you, it could potentially break your career. I've seen it happen to many game developers; they'll put out a game that didn't deliver and never be heard from again.
I was never the biggest G&D fan, always thought their music had too much of a commercial pop sound, but their remix of Summer Calling was good. Based on the description, the album will be very vocal heavy, so likely more pop stuff...

yeah, they definitely had a propensity for vocal stuff. wouldn't call it pop outright, but it does head in that direction. they were great at kicks in particular, and moody stuff.
most people funding kickstarter projects have the money to burn. that's my perception anyway. i have seen a game developer get burned (that mega man rip off) but i don't think the risks are anything like that for music artists.
hadn't realised they have released new tracks in the last couple of years... 2014 on armada. not a good sign

they had their moment in the sun, but they are never going to be able to recapture that magic they had in the mid 00's. their style was good for that specific moment, i just dont see them adopting to today. maybe they would have better luck with their solo careers. however i am surprised that they were able to have that much pledged on kickstarter, i really didn't think the album would of sold that much.
