Ear Plugs

Well... i had the house to myself for a couple days so i thought i'd go a massive mixing binge!!! I got on the decks and cranked up me stereo as loud as it would go and started mixing. Just over 9 hours later i get off and my ears are fucked. A day or 2 later when they start to recover i start to worry that if this carries on i could permanently fuck up my hearing. So now im starting to become more interested in these ear plugs that DJs often use. But where do i need to go to enquire about them? im from the UK if that makes a difference. how do they work and how much am i looking to spend on a decent pair that actually work.

Thanks

Mikey

i will endorse the etymotic er-20

but if you want serious protection, get custom moulds from an audiologist. will be pricey, but will save the ears big time.

I strongly suggest the Etymotics too. The ER-20 are standard moulds, but are better than most of the other earplugs that exist now. Etymotics reduce the sound evenly, not only the high frequencies. So you still retain most of the definition of the sound. The ER-25 are custom made but much more expensive. Usually the ER-20's will be more than enough already.

www.etymotic.com, look at the distributor list to see where you can get them near you...

Etymotic ER-20 kicks ass!!

www.etymotic.com

These suckers are plenty comfy, and they only block out the dangerous peaks -- you can still hear stuff fine, it's just not dangerous!

If you use one ER-20 in one ear, and a high-isolation headphone (like the HFI-650) in the other, you might be able to save your hearing while mixing in a REALLY loud environment... what do you all say?

my ears are fine and ive been spinning for 3 hours on full blast and the speakers are 1 foot from my ear either side directly pointing into them, my ears hardly ring at all and never have, if u r wanting to take djing seriously imo and are getting your ears f00ked in your house on stereo speakers, im sorry 2 say that i think u won't make it because your ears will give out long before you do
