Hi guys!

Hope you are well. I am sure this is an obvious synth preset that I am missing, but when growing up I checked out a lot of trance tracks in particular notable from Dumonde, Signum and certain tracks on BIT Productions. That all used the same sound of string.

I am thinking it's either a JP8000 or JV1080, but have been told that they used the Waldorf Q extensively, anyway I am sure an expert here will know.

They're just standard saw strings with a phaser on them.

See I've tried that but can't get it sounding anywhere near as good as this even with layering the synth different octaves etc. definitely reckon it's a sound off a synth.

It's just a preset, dummy. Get over it!

The Signum sounds like a JP 8000 supersaw, with very little detune, layered with a part where the flanger effect on the synth is used.

The Dumonde also sounds like a JP, but with more emphasis on the filter envelope.

Sounds like your basic saw+square pad (moderately slow attack, long release, LP filter cutoff w/some resonance)....and phaser - the key to that sound is the phaser. Remove the phaser and you've got a very vanilla saw/square pad. Any decent VA with a phaser (or a decent phaser plugin) should get you at least 95% there.
