i have posted a question like this before but did get any real answers...so here we go again. why is it that live sets sound so much better than studio sets. for example i have a bunch of the same tracks that tiesto had in trance energy 2000 and even when i do the same mix, his sounds not only much better but much more high enery. is it the effects he uses on the mixer, the sound of the crowd, some echo? let me know what you think b/c i cant figure it out myself.

the sound is put thru like many compressors and reverb etc b4 its broadcasted...

Whitesmoke I totally know what you mean. I have many of the tracks off of PVD's Nature One set and when I spin them, they just don't seem to ever match up to the way they sounded from his set. I realize this of course is all about acoustics and the fact that the recordings are a bit muffeled, cutting out a lot of the high frequencies and giving the bass a little more of a full feel to it.

There is a way to do it. You need the right equipment and programs. Messing with the audio quality is cake but adding the crowd sounds (like all live sets have) is a bitch. Find a program that allows you to mess with the following parameters on reverb:

Room HF - in db's
Decay time - in seconds
HF Decay Ratio - 0 to 100
Early Reflections - db's
Reflections Delay - milliseconds
late reverb - db's
Reverb Delay - milliseconds
size - of space wanted ie 1 meter to 200 meters long
Diffusion 0 to 100 %
Air absorbtion - db/m
HF cut- hz
detuning rate - hz
detuning depth - %
Scale Decay
Scale Reflections
Scale Reflections delay
Scale Reverb
Scale Reverb Delay
Echo Depth


With that you can easily mess around and make it sound exactly like any venue you want. The only problem is getting the dimensions right as to make it sound acoustically like Gatecrasher or Club Eau etc etc

if you need help adjusting i can guide you on what to do but it will take a while to do.

But also if you are mixing with turntables and or CD mixers a compressor is very key too. Once you get one you will understand because it keeps the output volume constant so that way your computer only has to do half the work to get the reverb correct and with more accuracy

indeed, the sound is normalised too, wide n dynamix [for winamp] works great for that
along with wavesurround, plonk the whole set onto tape and it'll sound live

yeah, but i noticed that in most sets, djs kinda speed up the tunes, prolly to get the crowd going more. i kno atb does it alot, tiesto also. its prolly a good idea tho. this might have something to do with ur problem

dont forget the pitch, and eq settings probably have something to do with the way each record sounds..
