New Electribe!

Firstly, fuck all of you (especially you Dave) for not posting this when it apparently not posting this when it was announced 3 weeks ago.

Secondly, while the launch of a new Electribe would actually trump the birth of my own child, I have to say I'm underwhelmed by Korg's offering this time around.

I haven't had an in depth look at it but it seems to be nothing more than a basica controller for ableton, and if that's the case, I really have no idea why they labelled it an Electribe.

I would love to get anyone else's input on this or if anyone has played or seen one for real?

Oh there's more to them than that.

For a start the synth version appears to have the majority of the guts of the KingKorg inside it which is a pretty tasty VA engine with a good selection of filters.

Secondly, they appear to have aped the Elektron style sequencing paradigm of being able to parameter lock steps in the sequencer.

The Ableton Live integration with Korg stuff has so far been pretty neat, especially the way you can use Korg Gadget on the iPad and save your work as a full Live project (albeit just as audio clips, but all in the right place).

I'm not sure how you'd export an Electribe project, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

And I'm sure we've had a post on this already

Yeah, I thought someone posted it already, too. It wasn't me, though. I rarely post new product info anymore since it tends to get some people butthurt for some strange reason. God forbid we talk about new music-making tools on a music-making forum.

Thanks guys.

So the more I've looked in to this, the more I like it.

The synth engine is taken straight out of their Kronos range which is good news as they start at $1000.

Then it seems like they've taken the step sequencing of the 'tribes, and let you use both samples and synth sounds at the same time.

So bascially it looks like it's a a Korg Electribe ES.EA.MX (mk3).

The weird bit is that basically no one seems to have got their hands on one and Korg are being scant on info/vids about it

Word is it will be about $400 which is frankly a bargain and I'll probably get one as soon as they come out if that's the case.

The bit I'm wondering about now is DAW (non ableton) integration. If they've made it drag drop for samples, then it's an absolute no brainer but the bit that scares me is that for some fucking unknown reason they've put as SD slot on the back.

Why Korg, Why? Please don't say it's how you load samples. They should have abandoned that in the 90's but they still kept it alive on the 2004 models.

We'll see once someone actually gets to do a proper hands on....

Re: New Electribe!

There's two models. One model does sampling. The other one has PCM samples on board.

This is more awesome though.

Thanks man, but what the fuck, Korg? Are they being obtuse on purpose? How not to launch a product by the marketing dept. at Korg.

The only mention of the Electribe sampler is a tiny link at the bottom of the Electribe page (which is only about the Synth Electribe).

So it seems the "electribe music production workstation is just a synth and rompler version.

Then you have the Electrive sampler which also happens to have a synth engine and a bunch of built in samples.

There seems to be a ton of crossover between the two models - Why the fuck didn't they just combine the two?

I think I'm leaning towards the sampler version, but it all hinges on how you load the samples. If there's a library editor on the host computer, then it's a done deal, but if those ******s still make me load samples by SD card, then Korg, you're dead to me.

Er, did you actually listen to it? I mean each to their own, but I'd prefer to listen to a cement mixer full of seagulls than that din.

It's cute that the DS can be used like that but this has been floating around forever; I remember seeing a teaser of this maybe two years ago and it sounded shit then. If you like Dubstepchiptunes, OK, but then again, you still like Dubstepchiptunes.
