Revere, Washington Right on All-Nighters, Spaniards Wrong About Siestas.
Here's to you weekend warriors,
If you have ever been to Spain (I highly recommend the Northern Countries bordering France - Yes, I said countries.) You have probably been annoyed by the Siesta: an obligatory mid-day closing of all businesses. Yeah, nothing open from Noon til two PM.
Well, while I know a few hard working and Brilliant Spaniards, their work ethic is questionable and rather slow. America's pace is unique and can only be compared to very dense populations found in surrounding cities within Brazil, Australia, and China. For the most part, the Average American has become shorter, browner and dumber compared to the Titans: Armstrong, Washington, Revere and Steve Austin.
There is something about that blazing ambition that springs in abundance in the land of opportunity: The good ol' U.S.A. Whether this is the Starbucks Barista at the 24 hour Shop or the Silicon Valley programmer; ambition and a rather unique impulse to thrive are the makings of these at plain sight ordinary folks who are everything but ordinary.
We are Vikings.
"Paul Revere’s midnight ride, George Washington’s Revolutionary War victories, and landing the Apollo 13 crew back on Earth. Thomas Edison was so prone to working long hours that his employees called themselves the “Insomnia Squad.” Robert Frost and Jack Kerouac pounded out literature before sunrise. “Exercising strength and stamina—mental and physical—leads to success,” Epstein writes."
