interesting concept. create a beat in 10 mins, a variety of producers have done it....

some hardware only jams, some DAW integrated ones. nice to see the different gear and techniques on display.

Ive actually yet to find one track that I've liked from this concept, but I enjoy looking at Mathew Jonson's gear.

I saw this vid of people in gear shops in London (Soho) in the late 80's noodling like this, and sounding more or less the same.
Would be nice to see someone evolving the sound instead of sounding like a 1992 Acid jam.

don't be dissing the acid!

nothing has essentially changed on the hardware front though, has it? so no real surprises it sounds the same. all the polish and tricks get done in the DAW afterwards... not too much you can do from scratch in under 10 mins in any case.

Cheers for posting Mac. I love shit like this, it's really the essence of dance music for me.

Tim man has a pretty nice reverb in that first clip.

you're funny only in your own mind... but that's ok - at least someone is amused.

Everything that excites me about making music is wrapped up in these videos.

A few hands on boxes, a desk and a couple of stomp boxes and I'm happy.

DAWs make me yawn. It's like using Excel.

These videos just illustrate how utterly bankrupt in general musicianship most if not all these producers are. The whole make a beat thing seems so stupid in that it is so easy that to even need 30 seconds to do all this especially given the lack of processing would feel like par.

Wat? I know you're probably bitter from those other threads but learn to compartmentalize. There was no joke.

True, there's a great interview from years ago with Brian Eno where he's going on about there being nothing worse than making music by starting at a screen and clicking a mouse. Cubicle music I think he called it lol.

At the same time, hardware is fun but really, it's just not practical to not use a daw with all the features and possibilities we now take for granted.

You've got a point but if dance music isn't fundamentally a "beat" (or better said a groove), then I don't know what is. But yeah, they're not doing anything that is musically amazing, and actually nothing that wasn't done 25 years ago.

I'm hoping that overbridge is going to be the catalyst that starts manufacturers really thinking about hardware/DAW integration. What excites me most about overbridge is that they are making a big deal over their solution for latency over USB. Having 4 channels of analogue that simply shows up as a plugin with all the automation etc is fantastic.

Roland (TR-8) you should hang your head in shame.
