PVD - PoD CD

Ok, this is a question for everyone:

If you actually buy the cd (yea i went out and spent the $$, it was worth it) in the little description thingy it says, "I would be taking the essential things from the track and in effect remixing rather than re-editing it, so there might be new basslines, for example..." To me as a DJ this seems like cheating. Did he actually mix the compilation, with records? Or did he just sit down with his computer and digitally master/mix the songs??? Thats the impression that I am getting, and it sucks. Does anyone have any info on this??

Caleb

It was not vinyl mixing. He actually re-edited/remixed nearly every song on the compilation. I guarantee this is a lot harder than mixing the set live. It took months to do.

exactly!!..."months to do" , i hate when people say oh he mixed it on a computer, but we already know pvd can match beats perfectly but wouldnt u want a cd he actually spent months on than a cd he just spun live in less than 80 minutes?...shit, i would

I know it would be hard to do all the editing and stuff, I think its just a bit cheap, because it means he could make the songs perfectly match with each other, defeating the purpose of mixing on the fly and showing true skills ( I know pvd has lots). It just kinda seems like a rip off, because by remixing the songs, he made them flow perfectly into one another, yea it took lots of time, but give me the equipment he used and i could also make a cd like that, where each track went perfectly into the other.

I don't really understand what you're getting at but it seems to me like you're giving computers and digital equipment a little too much credit. They're simply tools and he used them to remix his songs and then he mixed them together. I don't see how that's cheating. It's not like he loaded 12 tracks into the computer, then sat back and watched them get remixed and perfectly beatmatched by a magical thinking computer.

In any case, the Album is damn good.

Sure, it is a computer mix.........but please don't tell me u didn't know! When u do nearly more than 20 reworks u won't press them on vinyl or burn them on cd to make a vinyl/cd mix..........so u should have known what u can expect by buying this cd, ok?
And btw: most Mix CDs are made on a computer.............if it is a real live mix, you'll hear it, cause (doesn't matter if the DJ is called PvD or Tiesto) it is nearly impossible to do a mix without any error, small mistakes.......i mean can u hold every on beat exactly on the one of the other track? No! Usually u hear when it is a vinyl mix.......u hear the DJ adjust the pitch the track position etc.
And there aren't many CDs out using a real live mix....take the Gatecrasher CDs, all are computer-made IMO, but it doesn't matter, I go to clubs to hear a real live set, or i download sets!......the best example is for a real live mix CD is "U60311 Techno Division - mixed by Chris Liebing" (very popular in germany)...........This set was recorded at U60311 (Frankfurt) and it is simply real! Small Errors, cool Effects........a little bit amstering after the mix was done.......not more! No Try to make Improvements on the Transitions.

Computer Mixing.

Yup, most comps are mixed using a computer but this doesn't mean that it's not creative, check out S&D's Northern Exposure series.

One DJ who never uses a computer is Nick Warren(almost all the other GUs are computer mixed) and what happens? He gets slagged for 'bad' mixing and people compare his mixing to another comp done on a computer.
