Earplugs

Best earplugs for clubs? Musicians vs regular? And where do you get them?

I used to have custom molds that cost $200 which were fantastic but lost them. I now use the ER20s that PurpleHaze and Swamper have. They are an absolute godsend. The first little while after you put them in you think they have taken out too much sound but after awhile it adjusts and they're perfect.

I wouldn't buy from PurpleHaze's links, however. One of the commenters said he received the ones meant for a child's ear in the mail. Perhaps there is another seller on amazon that knows the difference. Alternatively, you could get them direct from their website: http://www.etymotic.com/er20.html

I have these:

http://www.vater.com/#!/product/287

"The red filters provide moderate attenuation suitable for intense practice or very loud clubs and concerts. The green filters provide lower attenuation which is prefered by many singers and concert fans. The green filters also provide a little better fidelity for more accurate music delivery."

infinity HiGH got them for me years ago, and I've barely used them...I always forget to grab them before I leave the house. Making a point to leave them where I can see them this weekend. I don't suffer from any hearing loss, but have been experiencing frequent episodes of tinnitus lately and that freaks me out, lol.

I've had the er-20s and currently have my 2nd pair of custom moulds (lost the first). I'd personally recommend the custom moulds. Better fit, they're easier to clean out, and you've got better quality filters on them.. plus you can pick the filters according to the decibel reduction count you'd like. I personally went for -15 decibels which is great for me.

They're more expensive, but a small investment given that you're protecting your hearing for the long run. The er-20s are also good too, but I'd personally recommend them custom moulds.

If you do end up deciding to go for the custom moulds, I'd recommend opting out of the hearing test as it won't make a difference to the earplugs themselves.. unless you want to find out what you've put your ears through

Thanks for the suggestions. I know I've damaged my hearing, definitely have some level of tinnitus. I may have gotten used to it at this point and cant tell if the ringing is that, or just normal sound =/
