Just wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of the 20Hz and under frequencies using Sound Forge. I know it can be done, I just can't find where to do it.

I use Steinberg Wavelab but it works similar to Soundforge. Just get a plugin like the Wave LinEQ or use any of the EQ plugins you have in Soundforge... there usually is a preset that says DC-Offset Removal, if not just select the frequency, leave the cutoff at O and for the type select Resonant Hi-Pass.

Process > EQ > Paragraphic > Remove very low and inaudible frequencies bellow 20 Hz

why would you need to remove under 20Hz though?
human hearing cannot hear that low

coz it improves the overal sound of ur track.. u can`t hear those frequences.. but the speakers have 2 generate them.. so if u don`t have them, the speakers have 2 do less working and can concentrate on other frequences..

Wow, you know, I've never thought about that before, but it totally makes sense. Great tip.

^^^when producing a track you are also trying to use different frequencies for different sounds in order to prevent each of them from colliding. So even though we cannot hear frequencies as low as 20hz it will however collide with the other frequencies and muddy the track up in the long run

fruity has an plug-in for this

put the graphic equaliser on the main fx channel and select the "remove 20hz +16khz+" preset. then all the unhearable frequences are gone

the speakers arent "concentrating" on that freq. you see, u can build a track with 20hz sounds running all over it and it would sound great on speakers, the problem is not that, the problem is that sometimes the low edge of the sound, like 20 hz, is making an offset of the sound, and then it can cause 2 things, distortion is the bad one, it can be caused with a track that is not cmpressed right, or not compressed at all, if a track is compressed it would cause the sound to do unexpected "volume" changes, so to prevent this u remove that low edges

I was going to make a new thread about this problem, but maybe I'd better put it in here too.

You see, when I'm making a track, everything sounds great. But when it's completed, I listen to it with headphones and it sounds crappy... The bassdrum doesn't sound...erm .. full, like it's a bit away or something. And the bassline doesn't sound very good too.

So when playing it on a good sound system, it's perfect, but when it comes to headphones etc. it's crap. I've tried different things, like removing <20 hz and >16000 hz, putting the bassdrum through a compressor and an eq, but it's still hard to get it sound like professional trance tracks do. Mantisnl (Luuk) and myself are working on this, but...... it's hard.

Can anyone help me with this? Or should we make a thread about this, 'cause I think many producers have this problem...
