One of my friends has a Tascam X-9. It's a BEAST of a mixer, but pretty damn good. The sampler is really easy to use on it. The effects unit takes some time to learn how all the effects work when you change their parameters, but it does sound pretty good. A very smooth piece of machinery overall.

good choice.
i keep hearing funky things about the X9.. great mixer, but maybe not the best design and/or build quality.
