Slow tour schedules?

I've noticed DJ's that once used to have 15+ shows a month in peak summer months are now doing only 6-8 shows a month, with barely any Ibiza gigs when they use to have residencies.

I'm assuming part of it has to do with the number of Producers aka DJs increasing exponentially with the number of clubs and clubbing days in week staying constant, so something has to give to make room for the new "talent".

Not sure what the exact reasoning is, but sad to see older DJs get fizzled out by the newer generation of EDM crap.

good topic of conversation.

The old guard is slowly fading away. I would assume a lot of those old school DJ's still charge a lot. An event planner has to justify the high cost of an old school DJ who may or may sell out a club night vs an up and coming young "producer" who would (and sell tables).

havent had any problems in SF regardless of the artist's age

older DJs (for example, christopher lawrence) aren't drawing as 'big' a crowd anymore, but they still get booked to appropriate venues

also possibly that some of the older djs have made a ton of $ over the years and don't see the need to tour 24/7.... its tiring and some of these guys are in their 40s and 50s now.

i.e. Carl Cox is already reducing his schedule this year with many less festivals and next year with no Ibiza residency he's said he's okay with that.

SF is a very different market. A GREAT market but different. SF fans appreciate good music and the promoters can cater a little more easier. I also know that artist fees are generally cheaper for SF as they tend to get booked for higher rates in LA, Vegas, etc.

I agree with this theory too. I'd be picky about djing somewhere especially after touring the world for 2 possibly 3 decades now.

They do, but they don't sell out as often as they used to.

digweed still packs a venue, simply due to exceptional talent and wicked groundbreaking selection. So technically precise with his transitions and each track blows your mind bigger than the previous.
truly from another planet.

What people on that list don't sell out when they play? I mean they usually play at festivals, so it's hard to really use them as examples here.

e: didnt realize you used the modifier "as often" as they used to, which I still don't agree with but it's even harder to measure such a claim
