Rabin was a great PM, if he had not been shot, I truly think Israel and Palestine would be much closer to peace then they are now.

Yep a good man but looking back....He made a mistake, but he tried at least and hell..he couldnt know better back then. You learn from experience after all. (no attempt to sound cynic..)
All those who're shocked now thinking im somehow justifying his murder are 1, totally wrong 2, not aware of two important facts:
Contrary to the widespread myth The peace wasnt buried with Rabin's assasination. His successor Shimon peres (the true man behind the Oslo agreements) had the entire population behind him. He was supposed to carry on and not let the Extremism kill all peace hopes. November 1995 Peres was therefore on top of his popularity, half a year later April 1996 he was beaten at the elections by Benjamin Netanyahu fronm the more conservative, more Arafat-sceptical Likud party. This happened due to one thing: Palestinian terrorsim in February and March PROMOTED and ORGANIZED by Mist Ara-FAT himself. A series of attacks on children and busses in Tel Aviv left the israeli society shocked and desillusionated voting for the right-wing Netanjahu (who btw won by a tiny 1% margin). So the story about the israeli extremist destroying all hope for peace is oversimplified and consequently WRONG.
Secondly Rabin was not as much a "peace-dove" as hes described today. In the six days war he was one of the military leaders and hes always been "hard" when it came to the Palestinians. Months before signing the historic Oslo agreements he proclmaied that under his leadership there would be no meeting with "that terrorsit" (arafat). After signing Oslo when he was asked about what he would do if the palestinians, who were given territories and autonomy, would launch missles on Israel he coldly responded "Whats the problem? We're reconquering the entire territories within hours and stop the mess". What was then a worst case horro scenario is today's daily routine. Just that today's smart-ass journalists deny history and paint a black and white picture showing the evil sharon and the white rabin and peres. At the end of the day every israeli PM wants peace and co-existence but also a secure existence of his country. Today security is priority, thanks to "intifada 2".
