Fuck Fuckity Fuck Fuck.

So my "buddy" calls me a few hours before the show, and says "Sorry, i have to go to vancouver, i can't do the show tonight, can you please call my replacement?" he said i could still spin, but with some other dude, i have never met before.

It's not like anyone listens to college radio, but still, i wanted to play for my friend, i respect him as a musician and a DJ, and i was all psyched about it. then he has the nerve, not only to cancel on me only a few hours before the show (to go see some other DJ he's seen tons of times) but he also asks ME to call his replacement!

I feel shafted.

What do you guys think, is that assine? inconsiderate? or just a friend asking for a favour i should have just done?

in fairness he was asking me to call the replacement because he had to go and the phone was busy.

I did a weekly two hour mix on my local college radio station this summer. It was pretty fun... radio's interesting, though, since you're spinning live for an audience, but at the same time it's like you're really not, since you can't see anyone. It makes it more difficult since you can't feed off the crowd, but it also means that you can play whatever you want since you have no idea how many people are listening, and you can't really do anything about it. Good times, though.

i used to spin on the radio too

i think our mix show had a listening base of about 10,000+ people

which was pretty good for me...before i had started radio i was doing crappy parties like weddings, graduations, ect...

right now im just trying to finish school

I am on every Saturday from 2-4pm on my college radio station. I got 4 calls last weekend which I think is good for such a small town (Ames, Iowa). Anyway, people are liking my style of non-commercialized shiznit. I am starting to have a weekly audience that tunes in. Yay.

You should see what I have to work with... I don't mix in my headphones I mix with a radio in the station and the Cue speaker on the mixing board. Here are two pics of the studio.

No that is not me in the pic. It was the DJ on before me.

Good luck with your show!

nice. i think where i am spinning is even worse, they don't have a DJ mixer or decks, just two crappy CD players with pitch control, and an ancient radio mixer, no EQs, no crosfader or nuthin. and the monitoring speakers in there are really crappy too.

but, i don't have to spin on that, i am bringing my techs and vestax275, so i should be OK.

I think i will be playing on saturday night, fingers crossed!

My station had some 1200s, but they were in really really bad shape, so I would just bring in my own decks and mixer and just jack into the board for my show.

College radio stations that pack turntables are really nice, consider yrouself lucky. I have to haul my damn heavy DJ coffin up to the station (couple blocks walk) every time I DJ.
