so the DJ from Run DMC is dead. People at college here keep coming up to me cuz they know I'm a DJ... and act like I'm supposed to care that a rap DJ is dead. Are there TAs affected by this?

Wether or not you care depends on how you feel about rap. Personally, I care because Run DMC was extremely influential in creating the rap scene as we know it today.

As someone who was once very into that scene... i do find it a little disturbing that a legend in that music would be killed in a recording studio of all places... All these young ppl in that scene today seem to have little to no respect for old school artists and what they did for that music it seems. But if this issue happend over money or some sort of shadyness on his part, then it was his own stupidity for doing that.

one of the true pioneers of hip hop is GONE..

hate todays rap..it sux..commercial crap with no meaning

but the old skool...run dmc@BBOY SUMMIT...ahh i remember...im sad and hurt.

ughhh im disgusted at the world at this moment.
damn criminals...why do u want to take a precious life...one that grew up truly wanting to influence the world and put impact in front of money.

today its money infront of influence....rap back in the days was truly beautiful.

up to wu tangs demise....i left it alone.

run dmc...i remember breakdancing to them when they were featured on MTVs AMP. cd.

im hurt.....i will now go hide in my cave until i grow a 10ft long beard...depression is looming.

It's always sad when a person that was a legend in any scene is killed. Sad day because you never like to see people murdered, you want people to live very long lives.

I grew up with breakdancing, and old school hip hop in the 80's... it's a sad day for hip hop. Jay always seemed down to earth.

I'm sure hip hop turntablists....REAL turntablists who laugh at trance 'DJs' would feel the same if Tiesto or PvD passed away.

Again, here I go. He's not a rap DJ...but a hip hop DJ. Get your shit straight. Even if you don't like hip hop or rap, pay your respects that are properly due, homie.

I heard about his death this morning, I was greatly saddened.
I don't care if you don't give a crap about hip-hop or rap, give some respect!

personal, I love hip-hop (not that commercial rap shit, TRUE hip-hop, underground and oldskool), and Run-DMC was a great group and heavily influental.
And as well all know, the DJ is the backbone, especially in hip-hop, without the DJ, there would have been nothing.
Jam Master Jay is no exception, he was a great DJ and I have huge respect for him.
He will be greatly missed.
