Satan (eek!)

Ok....I talked to my friend who is a DJ in MIT. This dude makes over 400 bucks a night DJing so he must be a pretty decent DJ. But he doesnt use turntables/vinyls to DJ! He uses a computer program called Virtual Turntable and his vast collections of MP3 files to make his mixes, lives sets...etc. So he goes to raves/partyies with laptops instead of turntables, but somehow he still beat match perfectly. Anywayz...anyone know any better programs than Virtual Turntables? like Cool Edits, or some other stuff. plez hit me back with ur opinon.thanks

I totally don't support any other music medium besides vinyl. A turntable DJ has a certain stage presence that can not be matched by anything else. I don't care if they can mix just as good as a vinyl DJ - there is just something missing if you can't see a record playing on each deck - and I can imagine it being even worse if the DJ buries his head behind a computer screen. The DJ isn't up on the stage just to mix records - if he was why not just replace him alltogether with one of the automatic mixing programs (I think HP is working on one)? Or why not just simply play premixed CDs?

Don't get me wrong, MP3 mixing is really a good alternative to vinyl if you're starting out and practicing at home but it doesn't belong at parties. And don't even get me going on using (potentially) pirated MP3s to make money ... that's just plain wrong.
