I've been lacking inspiration. I was originally going to try to put out a full-power psytrance mix, but I just couldn't do it. I didn't feel like it. Something about that sound just felt so overwhelming at the moment, and it just felt like I was forcing something that I didn't want to play. So I spent an afternoon putting together a mix of some songs I've been digging recently.
I'm typically very meticulous with my mixes, but I'm a bit all over the place with this one. It's got a lot of soul and emotion behind it. Mixtape style. Probably a few recognizable tracks on here for some. I kick things off with a little indie rock then it meanders on into a synth-pop/electronica territory. I hope it's not too hipstery, I have just been digging this kind of ethereal indie sound lately.
Beach Tiger - Companion [Beach Tiger]
LANY - yea, babe, no way [UMGRI Interscope]
Joywave - Nice House [Cultco]
Moon Taxi - Running Wild [BMG]
Shangrala - Golden Streets [Twinhead]
Goldroom - Retrograde [Downtown/Interscope]
Broods - Heartlines [Capitol]
Yeasayer - Henrietta [Secretly Canadian]
HAIM - Days Are Gone [Columbia]
ODESZA - Say My Name (ft Zyra) [Counter]
Pogo - There You Are [Pogo]
Cut Copy - Take Me Over [Modular]
Holy Ghost! - Wait & See [DFA]
Roosevelt - Fever [City Slang]
Great Good Fine Ok - Take It Or Leave It [Duck L'Orange]
Shall check this out tomorrow...didn't see it in my Soundcloud feed...

Seems like I need to do another one then.
Ah, be patient! I will get around to it. It's there in my head, I just haven't given myself the time and energy to sit down and find tracks for it. This year tho.

Glad to hear man! This mix is a little rough around the edges and there are a few tracks that may not have fit but it felt good to play.

I know I'll enjoy this.
EDIT:
Joywave - Nice House. Loving this song, the perfect nod to 80s power and melancholy.
Ah, just noticed you edited your post! Joywave opened for Metric last year and my wife and I went to see them. Very unusual dudes, but they rocked and had some really interesting sounds. They are coming back to Louisville later this year and we are definitely going again. In fact, I have seen several of the artists that are featured on this mix live.
One of the clear sound influences to this mix is 80's synthpop and new wave, redone in modern sequencers. The indie rock has a lot of 80's vibes too, as you pointed out. After I heard Roosevelt - Fever I knew I had to put something together. Perhaps that's why the mixing is so shitty, that I didn't even bother proofing or programming, I just slammed it all together as soon as I could because I was dying to hear all these songs together.
