Rod Modell has been doing some great stuff lately. I still need to hear the new Deepchord album on Soma. The sampler EP was great though.
Don't think it's out yet. One of the tracks on the sampler was at 135bpm, which I thought was a nice change of pace from the usual standard 120bpm groove.
Have you heard his recent EP with Pulshar? He's actually been letting a bit of melody creep in recently, rather than just endless layers of treated field recordings of the underside of a pier at midnight.

Yeah, although that might be due to the collaboration aspect
I haven't heard the full album yet though. With over 20 tracks there's probably bound to be some more adventerous stuff in there.
By the way, have you kept up with any of the stuff that Steven Hitchell is pumping out? He seems put out an hour of material a week these day and I've barely even cared about any of it.
have ordered the coldest season... was hard to get on disc.

The 9 minute one on there is huge.

I wonder how much is old from the archives and how much is new.

Just listened to the samples on Juno and it's much more melodious than the usual hazy stuff which is overdone even though he does it best. Second disc has some lush stuff on there.
Was also expecting more 135bpm stuff from that Atmospherica sampler released earlier but even that track was slowed down to 125 for the album.
I'm just getting to the end of the album now and it seems a bit forgettable. No real structure or sequencing to the tracklist that I can discern and most of it just sounds like standard Deepchord stuff. Little trace of the melodies found in the Pulshar collabs or the Prana/Tantra EP. Or, indeed, in the Groovelock remixes.
Although having said that, I thought exactly the same thing about Sommer and ended up playing it quite a lot. It's effective ambient music with an added thump, I suppose. I just wish he'd consolidate some of the slightly more melodic stuff into a full album.
Woony: I haven't heard any of Hitchell's stuff for the last year or two. A look at Discogs confirms that there's shitloads of it though.
soma has continuous mixes of a lot of their stuff on youtube. it does get very samey indeed. it's good for nodding off to though, i have used it for that on occasion.
