Sasha mixing technique (echo filter combo)

I have been into Sasha's monthly podcast, "The Last night on Earth", for some time now. One of his signature mixing techniques is what sounds like a combo echo/loop/filter overlayed on top of the underlying track. In tracks with distinct hi's for example, you hear the echo and duplication of the hi's with the underlying track continuing to play. I think the DJM-800 and later mixers had some sort of built in effect like that. I use an Ecler Evo 5 that has a bunch of on board effects that I can combine, but I can't quite get the sound I want.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I can try to find a sample if need be.

I've been listening to those sets too. I like them but there's something missing in terms of really getting the floor pumping. Anyway, I know the FX you're talking about and I think he's isolating the hi's and then putting a delay over it. There's an FX matrix that lets you combine different FX.

Carl Cox does this crazy thing at the end of some of his sets where the last 10 minutes are a kind of wall of sound loops that just builds to a crescendo, but the track actually stopped playing 10 minutes before. It's basically just layering fx over a loop/delay.

I think that's right RANN. A delay on the hi's only. I wonder if my Evo 5 could do that? I assume it's have to be done through software otherwise?

The Carl Cox trick you described sounds awesome.

As for LNOE mixes, I agree they sometimes get a little low energy but what keeps me coming back are his transitions. No one else quite like Sasha in that regard!

Xone 92, four CDJ2000NXS, with three of them having a dedicated Pioneer RMX-1000 unit between them and the mixer input.

RMX units have three band kills on them (like the original EFX-500) and coupled with a bunch of custom of settings loaded from SD card, and lots of looping.

Carl uses traktor so far easier to do...

Wow! Thanks for that! I actually use Traktor Scratch Pro 2 in my setup. Any further insight as to what settings Cox uses so I can try to emulate?

Is that right? I had no idea, but it's a smart way to do it if you've got the kit. Probably takes a fair bit of level balancing given that it's all pre fader fx.

Are they total kills on the RMX's? It's been years since I used one and might buy one to play with....
