Vestax PCV-275 vs. PMC-05 ProII

I'm gonna get one of the two. What are the main differences; crossfader? kills? effects? I've heard lots about the PCV-275 but I haven't heard hardly anything about the PMC-05. The list price on the 275 is about $650 and on the PMC-05 it's around $800. But they both sell for around $400. Any information on these mixers would help (preferably info on the PMC-05 ProII).
Thanks- Greg

Jesus, where are you pricing these mixers? I got my PCV-275 for $375 off eBay for $375 plus shipping, that's the average I see them for at normal stores too (give or take some bucks). No info on the PMC-05 unfortunately, but my 275 is VERY nice

Well, I wrote the "list" price as well as the sale price. Also, if you got yours from ebay, then it's probably used. You coulda gotten one from 123dj.com for somewhere around $330 new. (either 123dj or planetdj.com, can't remember)

Actually it was a brand-new sealed mixer - guy had a Dutch auction up for 15 of them. Was VERY happy with the price.

Anyways... the PMC-05 is only 2 channel instead of 3, which honestly isn't a big deal unless you have a specific need for >2 channels. The one major difference I can see is that the PMC doesn't use Vestax's Plastic Conductive Fader tech for the crossfader. Wether that's a bad thing or not I'm not sure since I've never used a non-PCV Vestax, but I do know that PCV faders are NICE (a note - I THINK that any Vestax mixer can use their PCV crossfader if you buy one and replace the existing one, but I'm not 100% positive on that). The send/return feature on the 275 allows you to add in effects units like the Korg KAOSS-2 pad or Alesis AirFX - makes for a lot of versatility in your mixing.

The PMC doesn't have frequency kill switches either, which would annoy me a little bit - the kills on the 275 are very cool. The PMC only has 2-band EQs (Low/High), whereas the 275 has 3-band (Low/Mid/High) - makes for some more versatility in your mixing. The PMC does have the crossfader switch control (which flips which side PGM1 and PGM2 are controlled from) though - more of a battle DJ feature, but it can be fun nonetheless. The PMC also has a crossfader curve adjustment - a REALLY nice feature, my friend's Tascam X-9 has that (now THERE'S a (#@$(@#$ beast of a mixer).

The PMC seems to be more a scratch oriented mixer (which isn't really bad at all), being that it's decently smaller than the 275 - this may be helpful if you're limited on space, every inch counts

There's a couple more minor features that the 275 has, like the split cueing (lets you hear your program track in one side of your headphones and your cue track in the other, some people like mixing that way), and the top-mounted mic inputs (not XLR unfortunately, but these may come in handy someday).

My personal experience with the 275 has been 100% positive. The sound quality is top notch, the faders are VERY smooth, and the PCV fader allows for more than 2 million fades before you would want to replace it - that's a DAMN long time even if you mix a lot.

If I sound biased it's only because I have a lot of personal experience with the 275 and none with the PMC, which may very well be a great mixer (I'd expect it to be very good anyways, Vestax rocks). If you can, try out both of them and see which one you like best.

Ok, thanks dude, I'll do that. I'll probably go with the 275 anyway because I'd like that 3rd channel for a cd mixer. And the kill switches are a plus also.

Thanx Stormdance for your long answer, im also thinking of getting a 275.
The Vestax can only play two channels at once tho, right ?

You mention that you can split the cue in your headphones to get track 1 on one side and track 2 on the other,
but you can get them to play at the same time in the headphones right ?
Im asking because I have a Numark 1002x now and I really like that feature

yes, the vestax PCV275 can play both channels at once (or even all 3) i'm not sure that the 2 channel vestax can, but i would imagin it can, most mixers do.

Vestax PCV275 is an awesome mixer, i have one.

as for the 2 channel, i have never used it. But there is ANOTHER vestax mixer that is simlar to the 275, and i haven't seen much talk on it. in fact, this is what i thought this thread must be about.

PMC-27MKII

http://www.hollywooddj.com/pmc27mkii.html

I think this mixer is pretty much the same as the PCV275, but without the PCV fader. and this one is a heck of a lot cheaper though. it doesn't have a price on that site, but i'm sure i saw it cheaper.

or, you could always go out and get this bad boy for $1300

but, i think i'd rather have a DJM500 for that price.

This is sort of off topic, but I couldn't help but notice that JohnSmith linked to Hollywood DJ. I've dealt with them before and they are really shady. They asked me to go to Downtown LA to pick up my gear and it was in this sort of rundown store. I had ordered 2 1200mk2's and the guy had a 1210 and a 1200 ready for me. I was like WTF is this!! He said they were brand new, even though the boxes were open. I had to sit there and haggle with him to get him to replace the 1210 with an unopened 1200. And previously, he said he didn't have anymore 1200's.

Needless to say, I haven't dealt with them since (even though they have low prices) and have bought a new PCV275 and Ortofons from Guitar Center.

Oh yeah almost forgot to add...the 275 rocks!!

I can't say I've used anything else, but I have the PCV and I'm not happy with the sound quality out of it. If I'm ripping a record, I'll bypass the PCV because it noticebly degrades the sound quality (I'm no audiophile either). Other than the sound quality I'm happy with the functionality. Perhaps for the price the sound quality is acceptable. I don't know how much I'd need to spend to get the sound quality I want out of a mixer.

hmm.. i've heard the sound quality on this mixer is VERY good. i've heard it's better than the DJM500, although, i'm not sure i beleive that.

I think Rane or Allen and Heath are much better than vestax, but i think vestax in general blows gemini, stanton, numark, and other manufacturers out of the water, especially in their higher end mixers.

This one is middle of the road, but i find the sound quality exceptional.

What i'd really like is a samurai:

or, Vestaxs "flagship" mixer, the pmc37pro

I have both the Vestax PCV275 (for sale: mint, contact me for details ) and the Rane TTM56.

The Vestax 05PMC is priamrily a scratch mixer (hence the xfader curve).

The PCV275 is primarily a mixer. You cannot scratch well on a PCV275 (dont understand the need for the PCV fader on these but whatever).

Anyhow, for sound, the Vestax sounds worse than my Rane. And better than a Gemini/Numark. I'd love to get my hands on the PMC037. It seems to a hybrid scratch/mix mixer that doesnt do great on either, but does good overall. Samurais are cool too.. just dont like what they did with the scratching part. It makes ppl cheat.
