I'm sure this has been posted in the past, but in many months I have not seen anything. Could someone post a site, or a post which gives you the run down of how a TT works, including the stylus, the needle, cartrigde, how to take care of them, what you need to do to install them etc.

I'm planning on getting a TT in about 4 months and I would like to learn about how to use it before I get it!

Also, I would like to hear opinions of people who have used the Numark TTX1. Is it better/worse than a technics? What is good and bad about it?

if none of that is clear... needles basically work by induction. when a wire moves through a magnetic field, it induces a current. incudtion is cuased by the change in magnetic flux through a surface with respect to time. so as the needle tracks the groove of a record, it moves back and forth through two magnets which sends a current through the tone arm and gets amplified and sent to the speakers..its very simple and very direct.

the motor.. if its direct drive... is a current that goies through a coil of wire arranged in a torroid... i think... well either way it incudes a magnetic field that moves the magnet thats attached to the bottom of the turntable platter.

im not sure..thats just what i think becuase i never really read anywhere how these things work... it makes sense to me though

It will be interesting to see if thoose decks will last as long as the Techs does.

I am curious to see how the numarks fare. But look at what time has foretold.

Techs have been around since Disco with only a few minor changes. They are built sold, i have friends who have techs taht are from the 80's and they still run/sound/work perfectly.

I am not docking the numarks just i would give it time to see how they perform years down the road

for me its not a matter of time, but rather a matter of what is needed and what is now. the reason that techs last so long is becuase they are built well, they sound good, and they are simple. they work well and they do what needs to be done without any extra gimmics or gizmos. its pure simplicity. after all... thats what vinyl is about right? if one needs all the digital effects and gadgets, why not just get a cdj or soemthing?

even though i think that the numarks are really nice and have really cool features... i know if i would want them becuase either 1) i dont need them [the 20 or whatever % pitch adjust] or 2) i dont want them becuse it takes the challenge [having a digital pitch reader so you can keep the pitch while speading up a record would undermine the skill needed for track selection]. so yeah, i woudl love to play with one, but personally, im gonna stick to my 1200s

i dont think djs really need all the extra gadgets on them anyway.

an experianced dj wouldn't use display....like the beat lights on a mixer. an experianced dj wont need them.

if an experianced dj used ttx1s, he or she wouldnt use the display, because all an experianced dj should rely on is his/her ears.

if a newbie dj starts with a pair of these, it is most likely that they will become dependant...and therefore screw themselves over if they have to play somewhere that doesnt have some kinda beat counter.

Tha' guy asked a question; if someone knew anything about the ttx1's over the 1200's, and i just threw the facts at him...

by tha way u put it....it looks exactly like the description on websites sellin it...

im not saying that experienced (i spelled it right this time) can't use the display...its just that the display can take care of many of the fundamentals of djing. like what djjade said...

its fine if djs use something like the ttx1....but they shouldnt become reliant of all those extra gizmos.

There is no way to prove this. Only time will tell if the TTX1's are as long lasting as Technics.
